Typically, it is not taught in any serious depth at the high school level, but it is often mentioned in passing fashion; however, there are some very prestigious private schools in which the theory is given serious attention, though still not as much as at the university level. Part of the reason for is this is because few high schools teach the necessary classes for even approaching the theory, such as logic, critical reasoning, and high level physics.

It is introduced in first year chemistry with more details in second year chemistry and physics. It is not taught in great detail in any of those classes. Second year physics will go deeper into details than any other class.

What do you think of the first Arabic language public school opening in the USA
What do you think of the first Arabic language public school opening in the USA?
http://www.thestar.com/article/252481 In Michigan (Dearborne) they are always looking for bilingual teachers (Arabic/English) for public school but even there they didn't do an all out Arabic school like this....I think time will tell really....keep the comments coming, it's interesting.

I think the great movement for integration is dead in America.
2 :
Then we would have to accommodate every language. I think it should be an option in many standard Public Schools, but I think a school dedicated to it is a little much.
3 :
I think it's great! We already have Spanish, French, German, etc language immersion schools so why not Arab? Brooklyn is the perfect place for the first school.
4 :
I think it's great. But there are some people who are making a big stink about. I plan to go by the school, insha'Allah just to see it whenever I'm in Brooklyn (I live in the Bronx and work in mid town Manhattan).
5 :
I'm not sure. The Semetic languages are rich and wonderful, and Arabic is particularly gorgeous. I'm not a big fan of the "public" educational model, though, so that tempers my thoughts about it.
6 :
I do have to agree that if we have an Arabic language school then every language would want its own school. Not too many years ago California wanted to teach Ebonics which really isn't even a language. I DO believe that classical Arabic should be available for those who want to learn it... if not in high school then at least in college. Where I am it is not even offered and the one time it was, there were not enough students and the course was dropped.

It's a splendid idea! We can have Spanish, French and Italian schools but why not Arabic? Just because as the newspaper states that "almost no one can read Arabic," doesn't mean you can't learn from the start. Besides, having the skill to speak many languages fluently is a great advantage. I can speak three language, Malaysian, English and Arabic. I'm working on Arabic so I can speak it fluently. And guess what? My friend can speak four! He speaks Chinese, Malaysian, Hindu and English! It's an advantage for him, able to speak many languages. Learning is never wrong. We live to learn, learning everyday every single minute you live.

Thanks to ALLAH.........I think that is very interesting and it just shows how much more our educational system is expanding here in the states!!!!!! That's the goodest news I 've had today!!!!!

Yeah I think you would. I am from Hollywood California and we have alot of preppy people here but i think you would fit in.
2 :
you shallow worm. this is not a travel question.
3 :
If you were a U.S. citizen, and a California resident "fitting In" would not necessarily be the problem. Education here is compulsory until the age of 16 so you really don't have an option. You must attend school whether you "fit in" or not. However teens everywhere are relatively similar. High schools here are no more or less clickish than schools anywhere else in the world. Its part of learning how to get along with others.
4 :
Pup's right. I would put you in the "insecure teen" clique. Seriously, it's no big deal. You'd probably attract some attention because of your accent, and you're from Scotland. But it IS pretty shallow and vain, posting your picture and worrying about "fitting in". Everyone worries about that. Is this even a possibility, or just your fantasy?
5 :
Ahh high school memories. I remembered ALL the foreign exchange students got the MOST attention and were treated like gods. I made friends with one from Belgium and on her Facebook, she has 300+ friends (and that's from the US alone!) I hope your trip to the US will help you change your insecure ways.
6 :
You will be just fine, especially because you are from Scotland on exchange. That will be exciting to most of your peers. I just hope your fellow students can find that on a map. I work with high schools students from all over the world, and it's amazing how alike teenagers are, no matter where they are from. Don't worry about a thing! (...and it's "clique", by the way...)
7 :
yeah i think you would

You're a cute girl, you have a cool accent. No problem! Don't worry about cliques. You'll find a place to fit in. = )
