Where is the best school system in the USA

Where is the best school system in the USA?
My husband is VERY set on staying in California (in the bay area to be exact...around Palo Alto - Cupertino to be more exact) for the next 20 so years because the bay area has the resources he needs for his entrepreneurship and he believes it has some of the best schools in the USA. I'm not too fond of California, no offense. 1) It is very expensive to live here (in the bay area)...frankly we are getting more and more broke each month *ahem* 2) I don't like the warmth and mugginess. I would like somewhere more affordable (also safe and family-friendly) and cooler. He is faulting me for being selfish and not considering our kids' future/education. Those things I mentioned are just the first things that jump to my mind when thinking about staying in California, not that I don't care about our kids or their education. I just don't find the weather very pleasant or the bay area being very budget-friendly...that's all. I personally don't know if what he said is true about the bay area having some of the best schools in the nation; I know Stanford is here. I tried googling the national school ranking but were only able to find school rankings listed state-by-state. Right now he is very determined to have our kids attend Murdok-Portal because "it's the best." And of course, if I want anything but the best for our kids...I'm bad...selfish...etc. Sorry I rambled. So is Murdok-Portal really the best (elementary school) in the nation? Does the bay area really have the best school system? Where is the best school system in the USA? Please state sources.

It is very true that California does have some of the best school systems in the nation! If you would like somewhere cooler and more family-friendly, try moving up north to towns like Grass Valley. It is a little bit cheaper to live there, though it can still be more expensive than other places. It has great education for young people, especially Scotten School, which really has the best teachers. After living in Grass Valley and then moving out of the state, I would do anything to move back because the schools there are really SOO much better than any others, anywhere!, that I've seen. The middle school, Lyman Gilmore, is really great too! The schools just really get the kids with a good relationship to the teachers and gets them on a fantastic start. Kids that come from Scotten or Lyman Gilmore all have wonderful behavior and are very nice young kids with good morals. Besides, Murdok-Portal isn't the highest-ranked elementary school in California; it's ranked 8th among other elementary schools according to schooldigger.com. If you click on the website below, you can make a search for the highest ranked schools in the subject(s), test(s), student to teacher ratio, and other things, or all of them combined. http://www.schooldigger.com/go/CA/schoolrank.aspx So I would say, go for a compromise and move somewhere north into a smaller town like Grass Valley, or find a better school up north! You obviously aren't happy in the Bay Area (we weren't either!), but education is still very important to you, so compromise with your husband. Good luck! ~KLove

Murdock-Portal is the 84th best school in America (out of elementary, middle, and high schools.) There are at least 9 elementary schools ranked higher. However, the top 5 schools in the United States can all be found in Massachusettes (5th: Sharon, MA. 4th: Winchester, MA. 3rd: Boston, MA. 2nd: Medfield, MA. 1st: Dover, MA.) If you want to search reviews and statistics for specific schools, try this website: http://www.publicschoolreview.com Hope this helped! -Araic
