Most Schools have 1-2 Weeks at Christmas a week in the spring (End of March to end of April) and the summer off for two months starting in late May to Late June. Some schools also have a fall break. (1 week) Some schools are year-round (same amount of days/year, just more spread out. Hope this helps, and Welcome to the USA!

well i go to a private school so i might be a little off but my public school friends have almost the same thing as i do: in october, theres a 4 day weekend november, youre off for like 5 days for thanksgiving december, you get two weeks off for christmas/new year in february, you get another 4 day weekend march/april-you get two weeks off for spring break (at least at my school, some of my friends have one week) june-august/september-SUMMER!

Hi, Anna! I have 2 kids in high school. Our summer holiday (called "vacation" here in the USA) lasts from the beginning of June to the end of August. We also have Christmas vacation for 2 weeks surrounding Christmas and New Year's, and spring break for 1 week in late March or early April, usually around Easter.

Does anybody know an English school that has a cheerleading squad

Does anybody know an English school that has a cheerleading squad?
How come most schools in England don't cheerlead and virtually every school in the USA do?

Well, Jen, let's see. Because schools in virtually every other part of the civilized world are focused on.....wait for it......wait for it....school work (sorry, don't mean to sound nasty). You would be hard pressed to find the entire population of a European town hanging out around a football stadium on a friday night to watch the local high school team play. In the US, school plays a much more social role than in a lot of the rest of the world. In some countries, it is a place for kids to get their lectures, take tests etc. They then socialize and play sports in clubs in communities, etc. Of course, in Britain games do play a major role in the life of private and "public" schools, where there are boarders through the school year, and that is a major diversion and seen as good development for the character of the student. Cheerleaders are almost a strictly American phenomena...after all crowds have been cheering without help for centuries...I wonder what cheerleaders would have been like in the Colliseum? Go lions go! Eat those Christians!

Most schools in England dont have a cheerleading squad because most of their schools are not coed and since girls dont play rugby or other English sports they have noone to cheer for.

School sports competitions arent as important in europe.People usually play/support their local club or team with more passion than there school.clubs dont need cheerleaders either because the fans come up with there own chants and they create there own atmosphere.(some clubs and schools DO have cheerleaders/majorettes but they dont play as big a role as in america)
