Some of Edwards voters wondered why Oprah didn't build a school for the poor in SC? After all they have alot of poverty. Why do these celebs take their money overseas when there is so much suffering in this country? Is it the church affiliation, the same one Obama belongs too, that has dedicated itself to africa? How about dedicate yourself to the USA?

Because by the time it took to get thru all of the red tape, zoning permits, building permits, lawsuits by animal rights activist because of the displaced squirrels, lawsuits by the landowners who want 100 times the amount that their land is worth, and paying off the local politicians just to be able to go thru all of the red tape, she would be dead and the school would not get built. Also didn't Edwards win billions of dollars in tobacco lawsuits which were meant to benefits schools. We also have property taxes in this country that pays for schools in each state. Poverty in this country is not a celebrities fault, the people need to take personal responsibility for their own schools, and their own financial health. Poverty in Africa is caused by tyrants and dictators.

I think that would be because there are already schools in the U.S. and all of the children living here can go to school for free regardless of where they live or how rich or poor they are.

She did it for the girls in Africa because over there, the education of girls is not important to the country and education cost. In the USA, education is free and there are programs to help, but some just don't care. We take things for granted that other people dream of.

It is a legitimate question. I believe people can do whatever they want with their money but it does make you wonder why more dont help Americans. Last time I checked, there were a lot of poor blacks in America and you'd think someone successful like Oprah would want to help them. I am sure there are issues of who would be grateful but I think some others are right when they note the red tape and plain BS you have to go through to do anything here in the US- ask any business- that is why they leave so often

Oprah has reached a position of power and money, supported by USA citizen's dollars, and I have seen a new side of Oprah I failed to see before. She has been one-sided, I would say racist, on some of the issues brought to her audience; and a commitment to another nation over the needs of one's own nation (that by the way supports your income Oprah) - leaves a lot of U.S. citizens left in the dirt. I bet that money could have helped build a lot of homes in New Orleans. Come on folks - open your eyes.

Not needed here. Public schools are infested with anti-Caucasian, socialism, entitlement curriculum disguised as "multiculturalism". Oprah and Trinity Fellowship have exactly what they need in United States regarding public school; now they are focused on planting propaganda Afrocenteric schools in Africa complete with villainization of America and Europe. BTW, I heard Oprah left Trinity Fellowship because it hurt her public "image".

Oprah, has,lost my respect. I thought she was all that,but She and I don't have the same interest at heart. at this time.Wonder why with all the money she has why doesn't just move to Africa,and do her thing. But, would the African people; support her like the devoted Americans have,? No, I don't think so. But she sure,let us know what she thinks of us. And that was good enough for me. I can take a hint. As for here building a school for girls, well we have enough rape here now,, so maybe she doing us a favor on that one. Lord knows, it's become so crazy who knows anymore..

Oprah has her own network now and she is so rich she can do as she feels fit and doing so she wants to appear as if she is helping the world and that is why she endorsed Obama and is standing behind him and wants him to win. Oprah cares about Oprah and her money and hopes everyone will thinks she is the big one doing everything for everyone else. So Sorry but she is one of those so called Money people who do not care about anything but looking big to the world.
