My friend is from korea but he goes to a private school in the usa. He was wondering if he could go to public.?

Anyone can go to a public school.
2 :
If he is classified as an international student, and is here on a certain type of visa, he may be eligible to attend one year only of public high school. That is the maximum allowed for some classifications. Also, he would have to pay the full cost of education to the public school, that is federal law and cannot be waived. The amount depends on the state, but states like NY and NJ it would likely be $15,000+, other states should be less. Also, just because the law allows an international student with the correct visas to attend public school does not mean the school must allow them to attend. Very often the school will not admit these students, too much red tape and hassle, and especially if they are not living with their parents. There were too many helicopter kids, kids (often Asian) who were dropped off with "family friends or guardians", who were really people paid to say they were guardians. These kids got into trouble because they were basically living unsupervised on their own, and the schools had to get involved. That is why many public schools will not take international students who do not live with their parent, and very few private schools will anymore. The best thing your friend can do is to speak to his parent and find out the type of visa and look up the laws regarding it. Good luck!

should the USA flag be banned in USA schools

should the USA flag be banned in USA schools?
many many mexicans are offended by the flag and would rather have the mexican flag in the classrooms. just look at texas, some kid got suspended just for taking down the Mexican flag in an American school. search it up...

yes, and the US tax $
2 :
I will die before I allow our own flag to be banned. If you love your country so much, stay there. This is America. The one with stars and the stripes.
3 :
What! NO.
4 :
No, but no other nation's flag should be flown unless done so in the prescribed manner (the other flag not being larger than the U.S. flag and flown lower on the mast).
5 :
Sure. You're not meant to be taught jingoism in the classroom.
6 :
like they say, when in rome, if they want to go to there own private mexican schools and fly there mexican flags in there, then that's all right with me, but as long as they go to an american school that's the way it is, since we live in a very diverse country there is no way to please everyone.
7 :
Damn you guys are really running with this one aren't you?
8 :
Would it really kill you if they flew BOTH flags...*gasp* I know that eliminating conflict thru compromiseimise isnt nearly as fun as running around screaming "THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!" but trust me, the world would keep spinning, planes wouldnt fall from the sky, the lakes and rivers wouldnt turn to blood...etc etc... besides...whats so bad about Mexican Americans being proud of their heritage??? I mean if somebody told you to take down your nazi flag, or your confederate flag...would you be offended???
9 :
NO. Teach the kids what it is supposed to stand for; without personal or private interest group interpretation.
10 :
People need to only be in this country if this is where they truely want to be. If they are here but don't consider themselves as Americans then they should be sent packing. This isn't a place just to collect a paycheck.
11 :
I think there needs to be some serious house cleaning, and we need to start with the likes of Sharpton, Jackson, and all the idiots who have lived in an Alice and Wonderland Bubble all their lives, who are clueless to what's going on in the world. "yes sir". "absolutely sir". "can I kiss your a,ss, sir?". 'thank you, sir"
12 :
It's just getting freaking ridiculous the BS going on now a days, politician have got everybody so scared to offend a minority that the being proud to be an American is becoming un-American, why is everything so a$$backwards, sad.
13 :
Ah - I like the way they put it here - http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1888086
14 :
NO! If they are offended tough. They are American now ,If they are illegals then go home. No harm done.
15 :
No, but the schools need to practice flying them correctly. The only flag that is to be flown on the same pole with the U.S. flag is the P.O.W. M.I.A. flag
16 :
The amount of racist twats on this website is ridiculous However, the flag shouldn't be banned, but maybe they should stick other flags up too - America's the "land of equality" after all
17 :
No, because we are America. IF you're story is true, maybe Junior should have minded his own business rather than vandalizing school property - jeez it's just a flag!
18 :
Are you kidding me? THIS IS AMERICA! Americans pay for the schools not Mexicans. I have a lot of Mexican friends, naturalized and foreign, and they all love America! Say the pledge of allegiance to the AMERICAN flag like we used to do. Whatever happened to respect in this country for our flag?
19 :
That kid you are talking about raised the mexican flag with the American flag below it upside down and this happen in the Klein school district so get your story straight.if I had anything to do with it he would have gotten a hell a lot more than 3 days suspension.I don't give a damn if these mexicans are offended this is the US if they don't like it they can leave.

How much money does it take to improve education in the USA

How much money does it take to improve education in the USA?
How much tax $ does it take to get a student to show up at school, pay attention and do homework. Is there an amount of money that will help get a childs parents to become more involved in his/her upbringing? Is there a reason that the schools in the USA that get the most federal and state tax money, tend to underperform? Do they need more chalk, or could it be that its much easier to make children than it is to raise them?

Ask the teachers' unions, they'll tell you the taxpayers are made of money and we should be happy because "it's for the kids."
2 :
As much $ as it take to get rid of the teachers union
3 :
more then what is spent on prisons California spends 5 times more on prisoners than students
4 :
If parents really cared about their children they wouldn't send them to government schools. At the least we could do like Europe and give parents the right to choose where there child could attend school.
5 :
Money is not the answer. The system itself has to change dramitcally. Almost every year Americans poor more and more money into education however test scores seem to decrese along with graduation rates.
6 :
As a teacher I can tell you, it's a very complicated decision that has little to do with the teacher's unions. We are paid 1/2 of what many people with bachelor's degrees earn with masters and treated with no respect by parents, society, administration, so no one stays. The gov't doesn't listen to teachers or students and prescribes what they think is best. Go visit a failing school, you'll see lots of problems. Check out the Gates Foundation, they have fabulous ideas.
7 :
What can I say? The gentleman yields to heavysarcasm.
8 :
a billion
9 :
You're right. Money will not fix the problem. In regards to teachers pay. If the teachers in my county are any indicator of the days they work per year a teacher makes very good money considering its only 6 months of work. The parents need to step in. I know both parents seem to think they need to work to have 2 new cars, new home, furniture, big screens, xbox, computers, family vacations, and eating out or bring in 5 nights a week, but the kids are suffering for it. It's old fashion, but these kids need their parents more than they need the latest play station game.
10 :
no amount of money will accomplish this feat,,,,you can not purchase what is needed to improve schools,, if you will take government out of education ,,it will improve on itself,,,but you must also return to the day when you had a teacher,,you obeyed what that teacher told you to do,,you didn't back talk to a teacher ,, and you had parents that would start the education process at home,,with knowledge and discipline
11 :
It should not take any (more) money if the education requirements for teachers were revamped. We have overpayed, undereducated teachers destroying our education system. More money thrown at schools does not go to the student, it goes to increase an already ridiculous teacher salary for working (I use that term lightly) only 9 months with every weekend, holiday, and then some off. Yeah, I know it is such a tough job! Been there! It is only tough if you hate it! If someone is educated as an engineer they should be able to teach, if someone has a degree in math they should teach. College courses for education majors are worthless just as most of our current teachers are (The few exceptions usually leave b/c they cannot hack the abundant amount of ignorance in school systems). Everyone is correct in stating that the teachers union must go as well. Teachers should be there to teach kids they love and teach what they know best, not to get their hours in for summer break and get the great pay and benefits.
12 :
i think it's PROVEN itself, cash will not fix the problem. i homeschool. my 4 year old loves to sit down with her big brother and learn his lessons. she's sooo smart she scares me.
13 :
The 9 Billion Dollar that is deducted from tax payers to support Israel to kill innocent people and drop 1.2 million bomb in 30 day on Lebanon,is enough to upgrade education,Also to make life better for 45Million American live under poverty line and they sleep in manholes.
14 :
So long as the US Public Schools allow the kids to run loose from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, there will be no progress. In addition, the kids that are troublemakers and the ones that can't keep up in learning, need to be put into separate schools so that the bright ones can go full steam ahead.

School system in USA

School system in USA?
We live in Germany now, but because of my husband job we are planning on moving back to the USA. I have a kid who just started 1st grade here (she is 6 years old). I'm not sure if she will be able to start attending school there if we move let say in 3 months. Does somebody know if a kid can start school right away when have an address in USA?

I know in my school, you enroll, and then the next day you can join. It might even be that day if you go in the morning. Good luck with your move!
2 :
Check with the school system of the town that you plan on moving back to. Since she is 6yrs old, I believe they have to get her into school immediately. Do the research in advance as you may have a choice of school etc. Most public school systems are on line.
3 :
Once you have established an address in the U.S. you will surely be able to enroll your child in school. If you haven't chosen an exact destination in the U.S. yet I suggest you search the school systems for their competency. Unfortunately there can be a very large disparity between school systems in this country depending on the town or city.
4 :
Once it is established you are in district, the school will admit the student the day you register with them. Make sure you have all that is required. Your daughter may need a physical from a doctor, shots, even a eye and ear exam before being let in to school. Have her birth certificate too.

School Holidays in USA

School Holidays in USA?
When are the school holidays in Minnesota and South Dakota? I am planning to travel from London to Minneapolis and the Rapid City area and would like to know if places of interest are likely to be busier in June, July or August. Thanks. James

Most schools in the US are already on Holiday. I don't know about Minnesota or South Dakota for specific days. I live in Pennsylvania and my kids started their Holidays on June 6th. A town about an hour away was a week after that. Most schools across the US should be starting holidays by the end of June if not sooner. So, Yes, many places of interest will be busier during June, July, and August. Holiday usually end in the first couple of weeks in September.

I think I can help you. I am also a transfer from Asia to USA quite a while ago. Here are some tips/basic things you need to know. 0.) It is not complicated at all. 1.) The basic principle (from what I can remember/experience)...is that you enroll the transfer student (which is your sister) to the desired middle or high school you want. 2.) The school may possibly give your sister a test. This test is to determine if she could go to the desired grade level or repeat it. -As for my experience, I failed the test since I couldn't understand english, so they put me back and had to repeat the same grade as I were in Asia (philippines). 3.) UNDERSTANDING BASIC ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS A MUST. but most schools provide an english learning language (ELL) class for those students who cannot speak or is limited in their english language. 4.) CHOOSE the best high school for your sister. Search online for the best high school in your area. highly educated high school teachers = success for your younger sister. 5.) Well, since you guys came from Asia (I'm not really sure if you do the same in your country...but in my country we wear uniforms...) anyways...most schools here in USA are public schools...meaning students don't need to wear uniforms. 6.) High School here in USA (most of them...) are NOT very expensive...in fact...I think they're ALMOST free...but that depends on where you enroll your younger sister. If it's private, then be prepared. 7.) The rest of the information will be provided by the staff in your desired school. They help you A PLETHORA!! so...good luck for you and your younger sister! And don't worry, it's VERY easy to adapt into the American culture (:

Can an American citizen but Philippine high school graduate go to college in the USA

Can an American citizen but Philippine high school graduate go to college in the USA?
American citizen who started her education in the USA, moved to the Philippines after 6th grade to start 1st year in a private, Catholic high school, wants to go back to America for college. Do I have to go back to high school in America (high school in the Philippines is only 4 years long) or am I limited to a college that accepts foreign students only?
Higher Education (University +) - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
High School in America is 4 years long as well.... just a side note for ya.
2 :
you have to take an assessment test at the school you're applying for so they'll know what year level to accept you in. otherwise you can directly apply to the university you want to enter and ask for their admission requirements. take it from there. good luck
3 :
I have just spent time looking at online application for North Texas State University where my wife wants to go and there is a longish section on citizenship and various choices there. But the first question is "Are you a U.S. Citizen?" and if you answer yes, you skip all the rest. With an American birth certificate in hand, you are a citizen. American high school is only 4 years long, after 8 years of elementary although in some systems 7 & 8 are called Junior High or Middle School which may also apply to 7, 8 & 9 with labeled high schools in that district offering 10, 11, 12. If you started Philippine High School after 6th grade and only took a total of 10 years of school, then the colleges would want to look closely at what you had.
4 :
A lot will depend on the college. Like any student trying to get into college, you'd have to have grades good enough for the college, probably need to take those SAT's (whatever the kids take these days) and get a high enough level on them, put in your application, write the essays, do the interviews and hope the college will accept you. Your best bet would be to go online and look at the colleges you are interested in, review what they requirements are, send for an application and brochure. If you like the college a lot, you can probably set up a phone interview to talk to an admissions counselor to see what you'd have to do.

I born up in Frankilavia, and I soon moved to USA recently. Would USA students see it strangely if I came to highschool in a toga? Would they be upsetted to me? Also, what garment should I wear to USA school, if not toga? May the woobles bless you. Ansnaitk

To be completely honest, yes, people will stare at you, and find it weird, especially high school students-they can be evil. Try wearing shoes, pants and shirt.
2 :
Ha, woobles. xD This question made my day.
3 :
no wear jeans and a t- shirt NOT a toga whatever that is
4 :
You can wear whatever you want, but it isn't Halloween. Just remember that people will never forget you in your TOGA. You'll be at a party or something and someone will laugh.
5 :
I don't think you should wear a toga only because you might be stared at or made fun of and that's the last thing you want when you are new to a school and new to the U.S.A. If togas are what you normally wear and feel comfortable in, then I think the closest things to those that would be acceptable here are white summer dresses. Buy a lot of white, yellow, and beige dresses and wear those for the first few weeks of school until you get an idea of what the kids at your new school are wearing. I believe the most popular clothes are blue jeans and different colored t-shirts, which are available at any clothing store or at the mall. Good luck and welcome to the USA!
6 :
Nice try, bird brain... Should've put this up for April Fool's Day,but it probably took you an entire year to even come up with this.
7 :
nice try troll...i dont think frankilavia is a real place, considering it got no google results, plus togas were worn in ROME. also, next time u decide to make up a fake name, make it ur display name too COLLEEN.

Do you think the kids in the usa have enough school or no

Do you think the kids in the usa have enough school or no?
A while ago i heard that Obama wants to pass a bill to increase a normal school day until 7:00 i believe and i work at the Boys and Girls club in Mohawk valley and i work with kids who are hyper after school so do you agree or disagree with obama and why
Polls & Surveys - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No, we don't have enough school time. I live in hawaii and we no longer have school on Fridays (all publc schools) because of a thing called furlough days... the state doesnt have enough $$, i think its ridiculous. We NEED more school time.
2 :
Yes, 6-7 hours of school is plenty. Kids need to be allowed to be kids, not be in school all day. The quality of what kids are learning is important, not the quantity. Unfortunately, the quality is going downhill and I think the public school systems have flaws, but simply extending the hours will not fix that. And going to school until 7:00 is just ridiculous. The younger kids will basically have no time to play or spend time with their families, because they'd basically go straight home, do homework, and then have to go to bed. Same with older kids. How would they have time to play sports or anything? Some high school kids have a LOT of homework too, and they'd have hardly any time to do it. That would just be sad, basically taking away kids' childhoods. And, if we went to school until 7:00, we'd be in school for about 11 hours!! I'm a senior in high school, and I don't think my brain could even stay focused on school for that long, so imagine the little kids! Can you imagine getting 1st and 2nd graders to sit through 11 hours of school!? Man, I really hope this never happens- I sure am glad I'm graduating this year. So, I think we do need to improve our education system, but not by extending school hours.
3 :
I think something needs to be done, sure. We have too many kids in school who "graduate" without learning how to read and write, how to do math, how to act out in public. I'm not even talking college prep stuff, just the basics. I think keeping kids in longer would help if it was done right--for the specific purposes the President mentioned a while back, that is, helping kids learn reading, writing and basic arithmetic. As it stands, the time and schedule of our public school system really is too rooted in a farming society that for the most part, no longer exists. Most of the farms we have now are either company farms, or they're the sorts of things where the chores *have to* be done by adults. So it does make us the laughing-stock of the rest of the Developed World, that we educate our children so little. Thing is....I'm not sure more time, by itself, is going to make much impact. Sure, it's the least controversial thing to say. It's the one thing you can say that *won't* get Fake Town Hallers bussed to your front door. But the truth is, we need at *Minimum*: --More time, yes, and, --Using Kumon drills to force the issue and actually *teach* a testable, working standard of math, reading comprehension, and legible, grammatical writing, --Giving Teachers and Principles the backup they need--meaning allowing them to discipline unruly, thugged-out kids as early, often and intensely as needed, up to and including physical restraing and spankings. There are ways to do this that don't encourage abuse--if closed-circuit cameras are good enough for public housing and courthouses, they can be used at school too. Likewise, having assistants in *every* classroom to lower the adult-to-child ratio is a must, if only so there are witnesses. I'd have more ideas to propose, but this is the *Least* we can do. This is the minimum it would take to course correct for a *Lot* of the problems public schools have lately. That and one more thing: --FUNDING. We need to get serious about funding public schools again....even if it means opening up State Reserve Banks (yes, it's legal, one state already does this), and having them pump *most* of their interest and fees from that into public schooling. Because just using property taxes and lottery taxes does *NOT* cut it. Too many kids go without desks and books, ok? But yeah. More time is a nice idea, but it's only the beginning. We need to do a lot more to get this generation literate and civilized again.

where did you hear that you may settle in the states permanently if you get into the top 10 MBA schools????? There is no guarantee for you to get a green card even if you have a ph.D ! I think as long as you can find an employer in the states where they can sponsor you to work in the states, you can apply for the work visa or the green card eventually. If you get into a better business school, you may have a higher chance of getting employed (but again, no guarantee). Afterall, two of the best schools are moore school of business of university of south carolina and the kelley school of business of indiana university- bloomington. They are not that difficult to get in. Study hard for your GMAT! It helps!

Es poste or exante? Ex post -- any public university in your home state Ex ante -- any law school in the top ten. Yale may be really expensive -- but the extra money you make will more than pay for the extra cost. Some third tier public university may offer a law degree at a reasonable price -- but your chances of passing the bar on the first try or getting a higher paying job when you are done goes WAY down. University of California at Berkeley and University of Michigan may be the best bang for your buck (if you are a state resident). Don't just look at tuition costs. Look at their placements and their pass rate for the Bar as well.

How many yeras of education is called high school with no degree in USA

How many yeras of education is called high school with no degree in USA?

Primary & Secondary Education - 4 Answers

1 :
After finishing high school, you've completed 12 years of formal education.
2 :
When you've graduated high school in the US, you've generally had 12 years of education. Unless of course you were held back in certain grades. Then it would be more than 12 years.
3 :
Twelve years of education all together not counting kindergarten or any preschool. If your asking high school specifically, it is four years.
4 :
High School is usually the last three years of the 12 year educational system in the U.S. You don't get a degree in High School, you get a Certificate of Completion. "Degrees" apply to University Courses, and it usually takes four years of college to get a degree.

how difficult is it in the USA to get on your high school honor roll

how difficult is it in the USA to get on your high school honor roll?
im from new zealand and im just curious cuz people i talk to from the USA say they are on their schools honor roll. Is this difficult, like what kind of dedication to school work would this require from the student?
Primary & Secondary Education - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I in a back to front fashion
2 :
It is no longer difficult to be placed on the honor roll. It used to be only the best, in the harder classes, would be placed on it. Now a lot of school have reduced their expectations, the work load in a lot of systems has been dumbed down. The course no longer have to be the harder ones. They wanted to make more kids proud but in reality, that have taken the honer away for superficial ego boosts. End results are kids getting awarded for doing whats expected, not going above and beyond.
3 :
It depends on what classes you take really. I took pretty difficult classes in high school, like AP classes (for college credit) and honors classes and things like that, and for me it was really difficult, but if you took easier classes, it wasn't that difficult to make honor roll.
4 :
You must maintain a high GPA. Or get A's and B's in all classes. Some schools have high honor roll, which just means keeping a higher GPA all year. It takes going to all classes, handing in all work on time, and getting good grades on all work, quizzes and tests.
5 :
requies dedication but isnt difficult to get, we have a load of people in NHS (national honor society) which requires 2 extra cirrcular at school and 2 more out of school all the while maintaing a 3.5 GPA that is cummlative (basically works on 5.0 principle instead of 4.0)

Yes you can use your foreign HS diploma to gain admission into an American university. Just get your academic records evaluated by an organization approved/accepted by your preferred university. It's very important to work with evaluators known to and approved by your preferred university, so work with the international students office to get his accomplished.

Yes...we study our own history.

Yep- it's a class called American History.
4 :
yes they do! btw its Americans!!
5 :
It's called history
6 :
u mean usa history and stuff... yes we do have to
7 :
Since 20% of Americans cannot locate the US on a map, I guess not!
8 :
Yes, we do
9 :
Yes, we learn about America in Social Studies/History/Geography classes. I also think every state teaches a course on their individual state as well. Like I live in Florida and I had to take Florida Studies in the 9th grade.
10 :
Yes. History, geography, geology, things like that. It's hard to tell sometimes, but English is also required.
11 :
Yeah, we learn about America's history and the government, laws, etc. :]
12 :
Yes, we study world history and US history. We study it every year from about 1st grade up through high school!
13 :
Yes
14 :
Yes. Schools here call is US History or American History.
15 :
Yes. In fact, I'm getting certified to be a U.S. History teacher, along with World History and Geography.
16 :
yeah, we have to study american history, geography and all that. There are tons of courses devoted to american history.
17 :
We study the history of our own country all the way from elementary school through college.
18 :
We study American History in school. Though, unfortunately, there is more of an emphasis on American history than that of other other countries
19 :
Yes, we have to study both American History and Civics, which amounts to "American Government" throughout primary and secondary school.
20 :
Of course. We have to know our history. In a typical high school you have a course called "American History" and another called "World History" Although, I don't remember ever studying Scotland. It was mainly England and Spain and how it affected America.
21 :
Of course the USA does -- it's called Geography and History.....when the kids are young they usually start out learning more of their own particular State history and as they get older it gets more and more into everything else.
22 :
yeah, sadly enough we do... its all apart of our history..im in 8th grade, and our book is called "us history" so everyone at a point does over here :)
23 :
yes we have to take U.S. History and World Civ. in order to graduate high school.
24 :
yes..I've studied the middle east too and Europe..uh and Africa..it's good to learn about the world!
25 :
There was a US History course at my highschool so...yes. Or did you mean do school kids in the US study the history of Scotland and other countries and such? BUT..most people in the US aren't the most savvy at geography of any kind...even that of the US itself so...
26 :
We do, but they teach standard LIES, like columbus discovered america and the Indians were blood hungry fiends who were trying to kill us, and how we gloriously overtook them and they deserved to be on reservations.
27 :
Every year of school 1st through 12th grade we study some form of American History. I think only two years of history are req'd in some states so that might be 10th grade for some. But I did four. Usually we study beginning with the roman empire and get up to the first world war. Only once had my class ever reached present day in History (aka Social Studies). In college, I had western and non-western elective classes that I was req'd to take so I got some American History in there too.
28 :
yes we do and we don't to any other kind of history till 6th grade it suckz!!!!!!!!!!!!
29 :
It's funny but when I was growing up the history teachers would stop talking about the USA at right about 1900. They wouldn't cover the 20th century!!! I think it is changed some though. Now, here is the important thing about it. Did you know that if you asked a bunch of high schoolers where the US is on a world map, a pretty decent percent would find it. However, if you asked where Scotland is a LARGE percent wouldn't know. Also, the UK is still beating our pants off when it comes to education for the masses.
30 :
Yes its call American history! then you have to study world history!
31 :
Oh ya, we spend the majority of our time studying ourselves. The rest of the world gets very little attention. Most of the countries in Africa and Asia are completely left out. If they are included, it is only to show how they are related to the US somehow or some place we were at war with.
32 :
Definitely! We have courses such as American History, US Geography, Economics, and Government. It's all so important to us!
33 :
Of course,,we study our home state and the entire USA, as well as US history..
34 :
yup Jonathan :)
35 :
Yeah, we're learning states and capitals....again. I already did this in the 2nd grade dammit!

How long are school years in the US,and when do they start and finish

How long are school years in the US,and when do they start and finish?
i want to know when schools in the USA start and finish, cuz here in Puerto Rico,we got 36 weeks of school, with four semesters,we start in august 15,get a Christmas break at around December 15,maybe 19,we come back on February the 15,get an extra week off in April, and start summer on the 15th of may,how dose that differ in the main land?

not really.
2 :
nine monthgs, from september to june http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090420071303AA4JDgb
3 :
180 days of school start aug -sept end in june xmas break and spring break
4 :
way diff
5 :
Schools usually start the last week of August. You get a one or two week Christmas break. You begin school January 2. You get a one week spring break in late March or early April. Last day of school is around early to mid-June.
6 :
They start mid-August, and they get off for 3 months for summer at the start of June. I know there is a few breaks in between, maybe a week off for the end of each semester. And there is 4 semesters, like you said.
7 :
Well it depends on how long you want to stay in school. You can start at pre school when you are like three, but that is an option if you want to take that. There is also kindergarden but you dont have to take that either. In school you can drop out when you are 16 years old if you want but it is not advised. Normally though now a days people do high school, and then college. But it ususallly lasts about 12 years unless you want to go to college, get your masterets degree, or get a doctorat. It is all left up to you.
8 :
Well, in the US, the most school days we can have is 180. It really depends on the school. Some schools here may have the same schedule as you. I go around August 20th, have a week long fall break, a two week long winter break, and a one week long spring break. This year we had three snow days. School ends on June 8th for me. One school I went to started on September 2nd. it just depends on the area.
9 :
It depends on the school and whether it is private or public at times. Some schools go by semesters and there are 2 semesters in a year, others go by quarters and there are 4 in a year with breaks between each quarter. A typical semester scheduled school, fall semester would start in August and go until December. There would be about 3 weeks to a month off before Spring semester with spring semester ending in May. June, July and part of August are off unless you take summer courses. Typically for an Associates degree it is 2 years, certifications a year, Bachelor's degree 4 years, Masters degree 2 years and Phd 2-3 years. Med school 3-4, Law school 3 years. Any school that you are interested in you can go to their website and look for their academic calendar. Good luck!
10 :
It's pretty similar actually. We start in Mid-August, we have several short breaks (one or two days off for certain differnt events, like teacher work days and everything), we have winter brak which is about a week long (maybe a little longer) during christman, then we have spring break in march/ april for about a week, then we have summer break (about 2-3 months long) which starts early - mid-june.
11 :
School years generally start in late August and run 9 months. The start date depends on each stae and even in a state the districts have lattiude to set the exact dates. There are usuall a few days off for Thanksgiving and Easter and a two week break around Christmas and the New years holidays. Optional summer schools run over the smuuer months. There are a few districts that run year round to maximize the use of buildings, But eh studetns just go 9 months then take a break. So at any 1 time 1/2 of the studetns are on break.

Hi, I have a friend who moved from India last year for eleventh grade and he had no difficulty. The schooling in India is a lot better than in most parts of the U.S. If you know the language you should not have a problem, and even if you haven't yet mastered it, you will pick it up when you are exposed to it daily. His sister has even went on to college here last year and is studying pharmacy. If you have any specific questions you can email me at krusemark89@aol.com
3 :
I'm sure you'll breeze right through american high school.
4 :
Hi - I came from EU for 8th grade not knowing a word of English and had absolutely no problems. Schools here are not as high academically as those in Asian countries. Most should be a breeze for you, for the first year focus on building your english skills and making friends, the material in classes won't be much different from what you are used to and a lot may be repeat since you are probably ahead of most kids here. Also, I had issues in math coming to the US because the division and also higher numbers are different from what I learned in EU. You may want to check out an american math textbook (Saxon early editions can be found innexpensively around the world) .. so that you are familiar with the material. Also, you can search the web via yahoo.com or google.com (us version of a browser) and you will find lots of homeschool and school supplement material that will help you determine how things are taught here. Good luck with your move. PS. If all else fails, you can homeschool here also. Many states have absolutely no restrictions, others you have to do a little research as you will have to submit reports and take assessment tests. Edited to add: I forgot to mention that you may also be concerned with the racial issues you may face here. Depending on where you go, you may not have any trouble at all (may towns and states as a whole) have more acceptance of students from India. Others may not be as accepting and you may be insulted by the kids here (some kids are completely out of control). Rearch online your destination and look for the school's ethnic mix...you will know ahead of time what to expect that way. Stick with other students of your heritage at first while you evaluate things but don't be afraid to mingle with the others. Many times people here have assumptions of cultures and they don't take the time to know you as an individual....it is up to your actions to change their perceptions if you desire (but don't feel pressured if you don't want to mingle with others). Lastly, remember to be who you trully are and don't change just to fit in with others.

How does the high school system works in the USA

How does the high school system works in the USA?
I mean, I know everything about the grades and the subjects you have to take. I wanted to know how many years you have to take of each subject and if there's any kind of order(like you HAVE to take math in 9th grade) and what about physical education? I know you can choose a sport, but what if you don't like any of them? can you just make gym? And if yu play football, for example..when it's not football season, what do you do at physical education? Another one or gym? Thanks ;)
Primary & Secondary Education - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
well it depends on the state. I did 3 years of math, 4 english, 4 history, 3 science, gym 2. You can play all of them. I had 6 weeks of volleyball, six weeks of basketball and so on. I know you can play a sport like football and not have to go to gym. you only need so many credits of each subject.
2 :
Depends on what state you live in. Here in Rochester NY I have to take three years of math and science but all 4 years of history, english and gym. We have extra curricular classes you can do like human relations, art courses (photography, illustration, studio art) For sports they are after school for me sports and gym class are totally separate they don't effect on another. In gym, after sophomore year, juniors+seniors can choose between three gym courses, physical fitness, team games, and outdoor education (biking, camping, hiking ect...) And basically those are the basics, but you need a certain amount of high school credits or more to graduate.
3 :
Depends on the state and the local school district. Each state has its own laws regarding education and often school districts set their own policies in addition to the state laws. Most states will require a certain number of years for the main subjects, but the number of years required varies. Some will have different options of requirements--one set of requirements for those in a regular program, another for those in a college prep. program, and perhaps another for those in a vocational (career training) program. Usually the requirements will vary from 3 to 4 years of math, science, English, and social studies (though sometimes only 2 years of a subject are required). There are often requirements for health, PE (or gym--which might be a sport or might be general gym; if the sport is in the off-season, the student would have to do gym or another sport), and other subjects. Generally, a student is strongly encouraged (or maybe even required) to take the core courses (like math, science, social studies, English) each year until the student has met those requirements. But it doesn't have to be done that way. (Though schools like students to take the core courses each year so that if the student fails, the student will be able to make the course up before graduation time more easily.) Sometimes students who are interested in going to college/university find out about the course requirements of the particular college/university that they want to go to and use those requirements to help them plan their high school courses. Whether you have to take courses in a certain order also depends a lot on the school district. Some are strict about students taking classes in a particular order because it is easier for the school to schedule teachers and courses. Larger schools are often less strict (but end up having more students who don't graduate).

Yes this is possible all you need is a student visa to enter the country and attend the school of your choice a friend of mine did it about 5 years ago im sorry but i don't know the process but im sure if you looked along those lines you would be able to figure it out.
2 :
There are various cooking schools, but it will be quite expensive just to let you know. To me it would be much more economical to study either in the UK or in Europe-vast more choices about there too. Job opportunities would be more apparent as well I should think. America has a glut on almost every occupation with this economic downturn. You'd need to be quite talented in order to secure a well-paying chef job.

How hard is it to get an MBA from a decent school

How hard is it to get an MBA from a decent school?
I am thinking about getting an MBA from a decent school in the USA (not top level schools like Harvard or Wharton), more like UC riverside, NYU, etc. But I have a few problems: I have an undergraduate degree and work experience in computer science, do I have to have experience in commerce? I do have a minor in economics though. My GPA is also below 3.0, but is that really important? What are my chances of getting in?

Richie is right: If you have money, any name liberal school would be honored to grant you admission and an MBA. There are plenty of good schools all over the country that have good/descent/reputable/recognized MBA's.
3 :
How far below 3.0? Any accredited grad school will require at least a 3.0, but will entertain borderline cases. These, however, will be non-competitive grad schools where the fight for available seats to students is minimal, if it exists at all. As the school's ranking progressively increases, so do the fundamental requirements and GPA is the single most powerful driver. Since you have real work experience under your belt, that will also be taken into consideration, however. And no, no need to have experience in commerce.

The International Baccalaureate is not used in the USA. American students start school at age 5/6 and continue for 12 years, at the end of that time they get a high school (secondary school) diploma. This is not considered the equal of an IB. If you come to the USA after completing your Baccalaureate you will be entered in most American colleges as a sophomore or even a junior (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior). Most US colleges are happy to have students who have completed a high level Bac. Nearly every US college has a website with the address of its admissions department. You can email them and they will email back with information about their policies. Many 10,000s of foreign students come to the USA every year, and almost every college is happy to have them. Of course, the most competitive colleges (like the Ivy league, Duke, Stanford, University of Chicago, etc) have very few spaces for foreign students, but there are more than 1500 other US universities to choose from.

a problem for you right now is that it is sunday,7:30AM in on east coast, and 3:30AM in california, so there are not a lot of school kids up right now, maybe. I was in school long ago, and things have changed a lot. Here are a few things: as in europe, we have kindergarten, but attendance is not mandatory. elementary school is 1st through 6th grade. we usually start 1st grade at 6 years old jr high school is 7th and 8th grade. high school is 9th through 12th grade. often, these groupings of grades are in different buildings so that the elementary kids don't mix with the junior high school kids, nor with the high school kids. there is a break for lunch, which is served at school, and usually one or two recess periods during the day. One big custom is that at the end of 12th grade, there is a "prom," which is a end of year dance at which usually only the 11th and 12th grade are allowed to attend. Sometimes, its just the 12th grade. most schools these days have both girls and boys in them, but there are some private schools where only girls go and some where only boys go. Here, "public" schools refer to schools funded by the government (via the taxpayers) that are open to everyone who lives here. We also have private schools that are secular (not religious based). We have church funded schools. The catholics have a lot of these. Publich schools here used to be neighborhood based. But prior to the 1960's, at least in the south, but also in some other places, black kids were not allowed to attend white schools. To correct this problem, in the 1960, the US supremem court ordered that schools be integrated, and the mechanism to do this was busing. So, black kids who did not live in a white neighborhood, nor close to the school, would be bused in so that there would be blacks at the school. And white kids were bused to schools in black neighborhoods so that there would be the presence of white kids there. Of course, this caused a lot of social discontent, and much of it still exists. People have written whole books about all this, so i won't try to tell you all about it here. But one result is that many places here in the south, lots of whites have left the public school system and have gone to sending their children to private schools. This state of affairs is not so in every part of the US, but more so in the south east. Sports: some elementary schools have football (american football) teams, but it usually starts in ernest at the junior high school level. the sports are american football, baseball, basket ball, and recently, soccer (european football), and sometimes golf. going to school football games is a lot of fun for everyone at the school. even in junior high school, there are dances from time to time. Well, i hope there is something in this that you can use. the article below may tell you more. If you want kids to answer you (I am 59) write your question again, 6 - 10 hours from now, like when its 7 - 11PM in London.

Spartan school of aeronautics in tulsa oklahoma
2 :
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University located in Daytona Beach, FL and Prescott, AZ. 25% of all airline pilots go to ERAU.
3 :
The best flying school is in oakland , california , "Oakland School of AVIATION" .............this is the best , yes , i'am 15 yr old student pilot learning aviation in this school , i have completed my high school and now joined in aviation , i have flown the tecnam P-92 and cessna 172SP , etc. The best place to learn and practice aviation is ""Oakland school of AVIATION"" alaqmar_aviation_champion bye
4 :
well i am still going to embry riddle even though i have flown a big boeing overseas before and that school in daytona beach is reaaly a good school and it is getting me through my career very nicely
5 :
University of North Dakota or Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Both schools offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Aviation/Flight, and you can earn your commercial pilot's license for a lot less than one of those for-profit commercial schools.
6 :
it depends of the area you live central plains is spartan school of aeronautics they been teaching pilots since 1928 then embbry riddle in AZ or flight safety in Florida! Ps edit i recomend spartan i have been there and tulsa is a great town !
7 :
If you really want to learn something about flying planes, go to your local small airport and find some grizzled old gray haired instructor who's not building time to get to an airline. He's teaching flying because he loves to fly and/or loves to teach. It'll be cheaper in the long run and you'll come out a better pilot for it.
8 :
There's always the Air Force Academy. You can earn a bachelor's degree, earn your wings, get some unique experience and have one hell of a resume to take to the real world.

What universities in UK/Ireland recognize the american high school diploma

What universities in UK/Ireland recognize the american high school diploma?
I will hopefully get a high school diploma in USA this year. Which are the other entry requirements for EU students (i live in italy even though i'll have an american high school diploma, not an italian one - can i be considered a EU student anyway?)? Finally, how much do universities cost in UK/Ireland?

I don't know about the U.K. but I do know how the Irish system works: Irish students apply for entry to univerities and colleges through a centalised points-based system. Students from other E.U. member states are accepted on the same basis as Irish students (adjusted for the standards of educational certification in their home country) but, instead of being processed through the centralised system, they have to apply directly to individual colleges or universities. The costs for E.U. students are the same as for Irish students (i.e. funded by the taxpayer, except for some intiial registration fees of up to €1500... although it looks increasingly likely this will change in the very-near future). As for recognition of your American diploma, your best option would be to directly contact whatever university or college you are interested and and ask them. Once you are operating outside the Irish points-system (as you will be, unless you studied in Ireland) then each college or university imposes it's own (broadly-similar, but significantly different in some particular instances) requirements-for-entry on prospective students. Finally, if you are American (and not actually an Italian citizen), your course likely won't be subsidised by the tax-payer and you'll have to pay full fees anyway which, again, vary, depending on the particular course you want to enroll in.

no.
2 :
America is founded on illegal immigrants!
3 :
That would leave america with only the native indians
4 :
Unless your ancestors were Native Americans then you are all illegal immigrants.
5 :
The illegal immigrants may bring prayer back to school. Most of them still believe in God.
6 :
its only americans need of naked woman that they have turned their backs on religion it is the immigrants that keep religion alive

Well we just hate to be blessed, they prefer the curses. M't:19:14: But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Psalms:9:17: The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Psalms:50:22: Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. ♥ † ♥ ☺ Thanks a million morons.

You can pray at any time and anywhere. No one around you has to know, even. If you show it off, I think that makes your prayer suspect in terms of sincerity. Illegal immigrants exist only in the addled minds of tea-baggers and the like.
