Should I worry about the economic crisis in the USA if I'm planning to attend Harvard Summer School

Should I worry about the economic crisis in the USA if I'm planning to attend Harvard Summer School?
I'm planning to attend Harvard Summer School 2009. I'm from the Philippines and the dollar costs like 50 pesos here. Im worried that this economic crisis that the USA is experiencing might have effects on my finances. I'm already burdened with the 10 000 tuition fee of the school I hope this won't pose something worse.

Well, it is not clear how long this financial crisis will last. Honestly, you should plan for the worst. Start saving more money now by being frugal, so that you have a cushion in case you need it.

Will it be better to study in a 4 year university + med school in Philippines than USA

Will it be better to study in a 4 year university + med school in Philippines than USA?
I'm currently a high school student in USA with 3.9gpa. I know becoming a doctor is what i want, and I will do anything to become a doctor. I am still in dilemma, whether I go to 4 year university and med school in Philippines or stay here in California, USA. California is having a major budget cuts and tuition fees are very expensive, unlike in Philippines, it's much cheaper. But the quality of education is still better in USA. What i want is to be out of debt by the time I graduate which seems impossible if I study in USA.

Study in the Philippines is an option. You may know that at most universities in the Philippines, instruction begins at what is about the eleventh grade level in the US as the primary and secondary programs there usually total only ten years, not twelve. The best university in the Philippines is the University of Santo Tomas and I would certainly apply there as well as to others. You will have to pass the exam for foreign medical college graduates if you return to the USA to practice.
2 :
You have to take into account that overseas education is very expensive as the fees for overseas students are extremely high. Here in the UK Imperial college London is around £3000 for British citizens but if you're from another country or not an EU member country they are £29,000. Its very likely to be the same case in the Philippines as it is in most countries. I would stay at a University in the US as the education is good and you won't be paying very high fees, you could also seek financial help from the state. You could go to a university in another state.
3 :
Philippine tertiary education is less expensive but at par with other countries, except maybe in terms of high-tech instruments only. Choices: University of the Philippines Manila University of Santo Tomas

Can my school make me come to Church and religion class on every Sunday in my school uniform

Can my school make me come to Church and religion class on every Sunday in my school uniform?
Ok well my school used to go from 7:30-4:30 a long time ago but changed to 7:45-4:00. But to make up for the lost time, since we do not have Religion classes during the week (it's a Catholic school) they have us come to 8:00AM Mass every Sunday in our school uniforms. Then we have a quiz about what was talked about in Mass, and Religion class until 12:30PM. We can leave, but they have a chance for Religion extra credit points from 1:00 to 3:00PM, which my mom always makes me stay for, even though most of my friends go out or home. Is this fair? Can they do this? By the way, yes this is a school in the USA.

1 :
It depends on the contract that your parents signed with the parish.
2 :
You go to a private, Catholic school, so yes. This is the choice your parents have made, and these are the stipulations set down from the school. This is your religion, and school lasts only so many years of your life before you proceed on to college (with all luck, and you will most likely choose the college you will attend).
3 :
Wow that stinks. Sorry to say, but yes they can do that. Its a private school which means they run things how they want to. I go to a private school, but its Christian and way less strict. Occasionally though they do things like that and we have to go along with it, because it is the school in charge. Im sorry your mom makes you stay extra. Is there anyway you could change schools? Sounds like you dont like yours very much and you dont want to have to grow up hating what you believe. I hope it works out. God bless
4 :
I have never heard of a Catholic school that dropped religion as part of its curriculum! How ridiculous! Religious education without religion classes!?!? My daughter's catholic school requires 1 mass per month mandatory attendance at 8am in school uniform. Since that's close to impossible for us, I take her to a later mass and she still has no problem passing the quiz on Monday mornings (all the readings are the same). She does have religion class during the week too. As an adult, I think you should take an adult approach to this problem (an yes, I think it's a problem because I don't think a 6 day school week -- which is what this has become for you -- is unacceptable and unhealthy). I suggest that you and those who share your option (both students and parents) write a letter explaining how disruptive this has become. Not the attending church every Sunday part -- that's our obligation as Catholics -- the religion class until 12:30 and the "extra credit" until 3. Address it to the principal of your school. If that goes nowhere, I suggest that you move up to the archdiocese of your parish/school district. And then the cardinal...and so on. Make sure you have sufficient support from your parents BEFORE YOU START THIS. Explain to them how you feel and what you plan on doing about it. I hope that they will support you in your Endeavour. Your bottom line question was -- can they make you do this -- well, yes -- you are a minor and your parents are paying for your education and it's an education requirement at your school. But, I bet if you ask around, you'll get plenty of support and you might be able to change the "system"! That's what the USA was built on! (But not always the Catholic church, hehe!) Good luck!
5 :
If it is a catholic school then I presume that your parents have to pay tuition. Since it is therefore a private school, not a public school, yes, I believe they can. Personally, I think they would accomplish more by reinstating the religion class and giving you more of your own time back but so long as you continue to go there, you have to abide by their policies.
6 :
wow. You would love Australian Catholic school. It is 9am -3.30 (like state) and you do not have to go to the church on Sunday but they do go occasionally during school time
7 :
Private schools can make up their own rules. They aren't governed in the same way public school is.
8 :
Sounds like most of your friends are outside of private school. Since this is a requirement of the school, probably by your parents' choice, there is not a lot you can do. How can you make this fun and still get full credit? Are the instructors receptive to ideas from the students? Can you invite people from the outside to one of the masses? Can you make this up any other time during the week? Good luck!

Wikipedia has been blocked at my school because of the amount of "atheist" content on there?
How can I convince the school board to unblock? I need it to research my assignments. They have also removed books from my library such The Da Vinci Code and The God Delusion because it is "unwanted content". How can I convince my school board otherwise? This is a school in the USA.

Nonsense. I don't believe you.
2 :
Sounds like censorship to me. I don't know if their actions are legal, but they are certainly ethically questionable, and you may be able to drag them to court over the establishment clause on this one. Not sure what the legal precedent is, I'm not a US citizen. Personally, I would not allow my children to attend a school with such bigoted and censoring attitudes. (I'm assuming it's a public school?)
3 :
Fine example of Christianity taking a huge dump on the Constitution
4 :
If the school collects public funds, they can't do that. But I assume your school isn't completely ignorant of such things, and you attend some religious private school. Uhh, I would say that if the religious position actually has merit, it should be able to stand up against even the harshest criticism. The truth never has to be afraid and censor the opposition.
5 :
Freedom of Speech and expression, something the US. prides itself on having when reality it does not if it does something stupid like that...I also don't believe you...
6 :
Sounds like a job for the ACLU or use a proxy server.. try www.proxify.com
7 :
Take the facts to someone at the ACLU and let them have a look (school board minutes, etc).
8 :
If you can't find a way to convince them then I suppose you can try another site that provides information like wikipedia. I'm sure wiki is not the only online encyclopedia around even if it is really helpful. It's really tough to convince a school board on your own. Your best bet will be a petition consisting of a LOT of students.
9 :
It's a school. You're under age. You have no rights. Get used to it. It's not for long anyway. Soon you'll be an adult, and then it will be your turn to tell kids what to do.
10 :
You don't need Wikipedia to research your assignments. There are plenty of other informative websites out there. Why, there's even this thing called a 'library', full of things known as 'books', which are just full of useful information. I'll bet your school even has one.
11 :
Christians are generally absolutely terrified of knowledge. Ask them what they are afraid of. In the grand marketplace of ideas they should feel confident, right?

im 13 can i move from geneva to the USA to do High School when I'm 15?
My Mom lost her guardianship of me when I was 7. she lives in the USA. My dad lives in geneva with his new wife. when i was 7 the Judge gave my Gard to my dad, I live in geneva now, but i went to do high school in the USA and live with my grandparents who live in the USA, when I'm 15. Is it possible? My Mom lives in the USA but she lives wit her mother ( my grandmother ) and she doesn't have a job, so that I dont think could be possible... the grandparents that i want to live with when i'm 15 ( after junior high ) , they are my dads parents. here are a couple of reasons ... -they have a lot of money. -they live close to the high school that I would like to go to. -big house = they is a room for me. - they are healthy... ...

What does your dad and grandparents have to say about it? It is totally possible, it is all up to them. Lots of young people move from other countries to attend school in the USA.
3 :
With all parties involved's permission, yes, it is a possibility. Whatever school you plan to attend will charge you tuition of between $5,000.00 and $10,000.00 a year though because you are not a resident. Best wishes.
4 :
No. You can only attend high school for one year and you have to pay the tuition costs. College is another story. For college you can get an F-1 visa and attend. Of course you have to support yourself while your here. Sorry! If your mother was a citizen then...
5 :
You mother is a US citizen? if so you can, if shes a green card holder (Permanent resident) she can ALSO take you to the US. You will have to tell your mother to check it for you with an attorney. Do you know if shes an American citizen or a green card holder? if she is then its easy and you can go.

Our local grade school began last monday. The rest of the students begin August 24.

Middle school start at 9:00 High school start at 7:00

It all depends on the type of school and where in the country. I know some areas of the country (southwest...?) start in late July/early August. The majority of schools, though, start in late August/early September. Also, a lot of private and charter schools start earlier than public schools.

I would imagine that it has the same impact as any graduate program: further specialization, allowing for greater expertise in the area studied, thus being able to command a higher salary in the field. If this were not the impact, why would students bother unless they just had some sort of fascination with studying more engineering rather than working... College was fun for many people, so I suppose that's quite possible.

Anyone out there have any experience with this school or the Choong Sil style of Taekwondo? I come from a traditional Japanese martial arts background and have a deep seated dislike of most taekwondo just because of the amount of McDojo's that I've seen. (a.k.a. pay us money and get whatever belt you want). So, any experience with this school or style would be apprecieated. Honest opinions only please.

Med school is 4 years. 1 year internship, then 3+ years of residency (depends on what you're doing it in). Fellowship isn't always necessary, but it may be. To graduate, you have to pass the Board exams. Hopefully a doctor can jump in, but I recall hearing about at least 2 from my doctor friends. They occur at various times during med school, and you have to pass them or else face repeating a year.

Best school district to work for in the USA

Best school district to work for in the USA?
I'd like to know what the best school districts to work for as a teacher are in the USA. Here is my criteria: decent pay vs. cost of living majority of schools aren't failing so badly that teachers are required to to spend all their time giving tests and following scripted curriculum. Located in an appealing area of the country. (No moving to the country). The competitiveness doesn't keep relatively new teachers from having a fighting chance at getting a job.

Recommended number of classes taken in Graduate School in the USA

Recommended number of classes taken in Graduate School in the USA?
How many classes are recommended to be taken per semester/term (say if each term/semester lasts for 3 - 4 months), during Graduate School in the USA? In the UK, for my Undergraduate Degree I have 4 classes per semester and I also work 20 hours a week. So for Graduate School in the USA (for an MBA) I was thinking of taking 5 classes per semester, each being 3 Credits, with no or less hours of work. Do you think that's too much? What is the average number taken? These are my grades for some background info: We don't use the GPA thing in the UK but main exams are: GCSEs: Applied Information Technology (A*A*), Sciences - Biology, Chemistry, Physics (A*A*), Design Technology (A*), English Language (A), English Literature (A), Maths (A), French (A), R.E (A), General Studies (A). A-Levels: Advanced Information Technology (A), English Language (A), Psychology (A), Maths (B), General Studies (B). BSc in Computing - I have a Higher Magna Kum Laude so far. Oh and I worked 30 hours a week during the first year of Uni while having 4 classes per semester. Sooooooooo what would you recommend for me, how many classes do you think I can handle? Thanx in advance =)

I don't know about MBA programs, but in the sciences students typically take 2-3 classes a semester, and that's a ton of work right there - I don't remember sleeping the first two years of my masters work in physics, only taking 2 or 3 courses a semester. Most masters programs take 2 years to complete - see how many courses they require you take and divide that by 4 semesters.

2 :
The kids in high school that are popular are the "pretty" ones, people with lots of money that drive their parents' cars to school, etc. Just because they are popular, however, does not mean they are respected. Usually the most "popular" people are the ones you love to hate. There are so many different groups of students, it's hard to put it in a short answer. It also depends on if you choose to stereotype or not. After school, most students have jobs. After all, most of us have to save up for college. If your parents are paying or if you have scholarships, however, sometimes you have time to study. Yeah, its really hard to put into a short answer. *I guess according to Marissa, I would have been one of the "freaky" people. I was not popular in high school. I had a few good friends, and my "group" that I fit into most would be the Art people. I think calling people freaky is taking it a little too far, though.

I don't know about vocational schools, but colleges will not refund you all or part of the money if you drop out of their classes after a certain deadlines have passed. They usually have this information on their website or you can ask at their business office to give you this information. I would expect that your school has a written policy for refunds. Ask to see it and read all the fine print and proceed from there. It probably will depend for how long you attended the school before changing. But the first place I would go for help is any counseling office they have at your current school. They will be interested to keep you and they should be able to help and advise you.

Does anyone else but me think it's sad they don't teach cursive writing in grade school anymore?
I imagine this applies to USA schools only? Here's what some of you may not know about cursive writing. It's a faster way to write and prettier if you can do it legibly. And I think I phrased the question wrong. I meant that our school systems are thinking about dropping cursive from their curriculum

We we live there is an EXCELLENT school with a performing arts emphasis, but my son likes to be behind the scenes -- doing sound or running the camera or scripting the story, etc. And the performing art schools don't have a program for this. I have completed my High School and 4 year College from Bangladesh. I am permanent resident (Green Card holder) and live in NY. I am planning for another 4 year college degree as a Freshman student. Note: That be my second degree. So far i have taken no aid and attend no college. Can i apply for FAFSA?

Yep!! You can apply for grants for as long as you are in school! That's the beauty of them :-) Just make sure you do fill out and turn in your FAFSA (the name of the form) soon as the deadline is only a couple months away.

Needing some information about high school in the USA?

Can you please explain me how does it work , can i choose all the subjcets i want to study or just someone like spanish or tennis ext....What about lunch , do i eat at school or not , and what about sport , how does it work?? do i have to do an exam to play tennis in high school or not? and if i pass this examination , will i play some tennis tournaments? For those who live in san diego or near there , in your opinion what are the best high schools there?? Thanks for all the answers

So, you have your core classes (math, english, science, social studies). Those are the only ones really required. You can pick everything else. However, since it'll be your last year of high school, you'll also need to take classes to fulfill the graduation requirements for that school. For example, I have to take health before I can graduate. So, after including those requirements, everything left is your choice. As far as lunch goes, it depends on the school rules. Most high schools have open campus for 11 and 12 grades, so they can either stay at school OR go out for lunch. For sports, you have to pass the tryouts. Dates would be posted around the school or on the website. So, you just show up and do your best...and hope that the coach thinks you're good enough to be on the team. If the coach says you're on the team, then you can play in all the tournaments and games. Eh, I can't really answer your last question there. I don't live anywhere near there.
2 :
The guy above isn't fully right as each district have different classes that you have to attend , but English , math and science are compulsory. At lunch you eat of course and relax as this your break to socialize and prepare yourself for the next class. The deal on sports is that you pick which sport you would like to play and judging on what you have said in the text you like tennis. now to be able to play tennis you must be eligible to play as this requires your grades to be at a reasonable level and if you fall below this level you will not be able to play until you've passed it or are on it .
3 :
HS here can be different. Our HS is on the block system and only has four classes a day. Other HS can have 8 classes a day. Lunch is at school. Most HS campuses are closed. Meaning you can not leave till the end of the school day, and anyone coming in must be checked in at the main office. This is mainly for security. Most sports teams you must try out for. If you make the tennis team, you would do tournaments. If you go to a public school, you will have to go to the HS whose boundaries you live in. You don't get a choice of which public HS to go to. If you know where you are going to live, you can find out what HS you are going to and see if they have a web site. Many HS do. Some subject you must take- like english all four years. Others you will have a choose of. Like taking a foreign language. Any sports team would be an after school activity. School days differ. But you should start school around 7:30 am and go till 2:30/3 pm.

Where should I go to high school? England or USA

Where should I go to high school? England or USA?
Im 13 at the moment and next year I'll be starting high school I am so scared because I dont know where I want to go. My parents gave me a few options and said I should pick whatever one I like. I live in Arizona, USA and I can either go to a high school there but its a private high school but a boy&girl one. I would be a day student and could live at home. The second option is a boarding school. It's called 'Stowe' and its in Buckingham, England. Its also a boy&girl one. The reson WHY this school is because my dad is Italian, but he moved to England when he was 11 and thats the school he went to before he came to the US and he said it he had the time of his life. I like both! If I stayed in Arizona, I would still be able to always be with my family and friends BUT if I moved to England I would have a whole new experience the only thing is I would be so far away from my family. I would see my grandparents in london a lot, but would only go back to the USA on holidays so I wont see my parents and friends often and I know I will miss them so much:( I really need advice. If you were in my position, what would you pick? Im so scared to make the wrong decision:(

If it was me, I would pickthe friend's and family option, because I don't feel comfortable when I dont have a family or friend there to support me. Plus, I would miss them a whole lot.
6 :
i'd go to the school in england and try something new :)
7 :
You should try them all. Try a year in england, try a year in America.. see what you like. You'll be surpirsed what your preference is. I went to private school from middle school until my sophmore year. And I always thought it was "laid back" (My school was laid back, rules-wise because they trusted the students) and I transfered to a public school because of finance issues and people complain about how horrible the public school was and i ended up liking the people there more than in my old school because i was able to relate to them more and had more fun. I would go with England first just because i always wanted to go to England but I would try a variety and not just pick one.
8 :
I would pick the good old U S A!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
9 :
Definitely England. You'd get qualifications (GCSEs) at 16 and further qualifications, which are optional, at 18 called A Levels. The English school system is very good and you get to choose your subjects for GCSE at the age of 14 (Year 10). Core: Maths, English, Core Science, PE (no qualification given), IT You can choose any three subjects from here if your school offers them: Art, Drama, Music, Dance, GCSE PE, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Triple Science, GCSE IT, Business Studies, Childcare, Leisure and Tourism, Geography, Philosophy and Ethics, History We had to choose a Technology subject for our 4th option, but other schools may require humanities, science, a creative subject or a language. Tech: Electronics, Food Technology, Resistant Materials (woodworks and metal), Textiles, Graphics Your school year will be split up into three terms and separated into half terms. These are: Autumn Term: Sept - Dec Spring Term: Jan - April Summer Term: May - July There are one week half-term holidays and two week half-term holidays. From July - Sept, there is a 6 weeks summer holiday. England doesn't have high schools as I am aware of, but you are most likely going to a secondary school for people between the ages of 11-16 or 11-18 depending on if it has a sixth form. Some schools may have High School in their name, but they're not actually high schools. No prom here. :) Or at least the Year 11 and Sixth Form proms are optional... they probably are in the US too but I've never enjoyed the idea of a prom or homecoming, but that's just me.

England would be fun, but I think you need to consider some things. #1. Do you make friends easily? #2. Have you spent time away from family before? If so how did you react in that situation? #3. Do you easily get home sick? How you answer these can tell you if you should go to England. Good luck darling :)

Personally, I liked public school. You get to meet an interesting variety of people, and that is important because A) it helps you develop socially, and B) expands your perception of race and tolerance. Maybe the education is of a lower quality, but if you pick a decent public school, that won't be a factor. If you go to school with a bunch of people who are exactly like you, you won't learn as much-- and I mean that in the sense of culture as well as basic knowledge. Public school helps you develop "street smarts", and those become increasingly important the older and more independent you become. Knowing how to interact with and get along with a wide variety of people is critical in college, and the easiest way to learn how to do that is in public school.

Because I really LOVE England, I say go to England. If you plan on going to college, they will look at the schools you have attended and stuff and maybe be impressed that you went there. school of traditional chinese medicine in the usa

school of traditional chinese medicine in the usa?
I am curious about learning traditional chinese medicine (TCM). All through massage school we would talk about it. Can anyone direct me to a listing of good TCM schools in the USA? I already found the one in manhattan, but would like to know if there are anymore. I am looking for a school where I can do the full training, not just a weekend workshop. Thanks alot! a side thought; is it possible to just train in herbology? That has always interested me the most. Do you have to be an acupunsturist to study herbs? Thanks! I will look into the school in MA. I live in upstate NY. I have researched pacific college , but I dont know if I will have the finances to go to school in NYC.

If you want to go to a good TCM school, it has to be in China. The level of education taught in US TCM schools is low, equivalent to high school degree. I've yet to meet a US trained acupuncturist who knows what they're doing and I don't refer any patients to them. US trained acupuncturists needle the same spots for patients that present the same symptoms. An asian trained acupuncturist does a full assessment and needles spots that are unique and different from patient to patient even though they may complain about the same symptom. If you can't afford to go to China, in the Tri-state area, Pacific college in manhattan is one of the best ones. While you train there, there are seminars available that can help increase your knowledge or find a mentor and learn from them how to become a good acupuncturist. But if you don't have the intention of doing so, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money going to TCM school. You'll do more harm to your patients and downgrade the profession.

There is (or was) an school of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Shattuck Street in Berkeley, CA. Check New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown, MA to see what their offerings are. [I just did. They do indeed offer Chinese Herbal Medicine as a modality/course of study. 150 California Street, 3rd Floor Newton, MA 02458 617.558.1788] I know they offer acupuncture and acupressure, Tui Na, Do-In, Chi Gong, Shiatsu studies, I'm just not sure about herbology at the moment. Pacific College of Medicine does indeed have a branch in Manhattan on Broadway. It's one of the best schools in North America for this discipline. [Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, 915 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY (212)982-4600. There is also an excellent college of Chinese Medicine in Minneapolis. I know this b/c one of my best friends is studying there now. It is extremely rigorous and time consuming, but she's loving it and seems to be excelling. 1) Midwest College of Oriental Medicine 4334 North Hazel Suite 206 Chicago, Illinois 60613 Telephone: 773-975-1295 2) American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine 455 Arkansas Street San Francisco, CA 94107 (415)282-7600 3) See contact info above for New England School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. There is a website called www.naturalhealers.com. It literally lists hundreds and hundreds of schools by discipline and location. Use this website--it's awesome. It would be extremely helpful to know where you are in the world/what state you're in before answering this question.
3 :
Since you live in Upstate NY you need to look at New York Chiropractic College its in Seneca Falls they have a accredited Masters in Oriental Medicine and also in Acupuncture. As for just training in herbology no there is no truly just certified program for herbology and on top of that most states don't license herbalists. I would also recommend that you check out Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine's website they'd provide you with the information on what schools are accredited through out the country. Also the great thing about NYCC is that they are also regionally accredited which means that their credits are more likely to transfer to a traditional school then those schools that are regionally accredited.
4 :
Licensed acupuncturists in the USA attend 4 years of full time Oriental medical school as a post graduate course (In other words, most of them have 8 years of college, just like an MD or chiro). They must pass a vigorous national board exam, and must be licensed in the state where they practice. You can visit www.naturalhealers.com for a complete list of herb schools and acupuncture schools.

moving to a school in the usa and i am from australia? any tips?

moving to a school in the usa and i am from australia? any tips?
ok, so im moving to the USA and im going to be starting school over there, ive had my schooling life in australia, i am a 16 year old moving next week. I just need tips on what the schools are like over there and how to fit in well as it will probably be a big culture shock, for example are there like popular groups, and all that? because whereas australia is just laid back, like just watching these american shows gives an influence of american schools which i think are made up of different catergories like, the popular kids, the normal kids, the nerds, and the losers , just wondering what schools in america are like.

OI mate, why the fock would you do that, the outback's the greatest focking place on the planet mate. Enjoy eating beef alligator steaks instead of croc steaks and eating bison steaks in place of 'roo steaks mate. Cheers, mate
2 :
Do you have any choice in where you're going? I think, generally speaking, the west coast is more laid back than the east coast. The midwest is very conservative. The south, a bit different, but Florida is not like the other southern states since so many people move there from different parts of the country. So east coast, south, midwest, south west, and north west are very different climates and cultures. I went to school in the Northwest and now live in the Northwest and I just love it. I think your list of typical groups is pretty accurate. I started high school after moving to a new state so I did not know anyone and they all grew up together. So it was very hard for me to fit in. At first, I tried to change myself to fit in with them. The standard uniform for guys at that time was corduroy pants and long sleeve plaid shirt. So I did that until one day I walked up to the group of cool people and after one of their friends walked away to class, someone made a comment about him that just cut him down to ribbons and they all laughed. I figured, if that's how you treat your friends I don't need your friendship. So I spent the rest of that year alone and frustrated. During our orientation, someone said that joining a club or a sport would be a good way to meet people. So, much to my surprise, I joined the cross country running team (I was not too interested in football, baseball, or soccer). And I did get to know those guys and pretty quickly found myself part of a good group of people. So that really helped. The other thing that surprised me was that this tall, goofy, red headed kid turned out to be not such a strange person after we talked a bit. I found that he had a similar background and the same interests as I did. So we started hanging out my sophomore year and eventually became best friends. So, I learned to not judge a book by its cover and give people a chance. I had a similar experience in college with a guy I thought was the supreme leader of the party animals but turned out we had very similar views on life and practically the same hopes and dreams for the future. I think it is also fair to say this, there are usually enough groups (unless you move to a small town) that you will find one (or two) that you fit in well with. I think kids these days (I am the parent of a 14, 16, and 19 year old) are more confident in themselves and more in tune with their identity. I think they are less prone to follow a single crowd and more prone to form a group that fits them. So that provides a lot of opportunity for kids of all types to be themselves. I'll also repeat the advice I received, join a sport or club that interests you. That will be the easiest way to find people who share your interests. You can take heart at least in this: everyone will LOVE your Aussie accent! Over the past 10 years or so sports shows and game shows have brought in Aussies and British commentators and hosts because their accents are so appealing to Americans. For some reason, we think they sound really cool, we get a kick out of the funny words you people have, and we just love hearing that voice. So I bet that, once you start talking, you will attract people who want to listen to you. And then, I'm sure good relationships will follow. Good luck!
3 :
Hated, listen, short and sweet, be yourself, keep your nose clean and you will fit in okay with the system in place over this side of the world. Over this side of the world the kids are more laid back. Just remember, your going to school to learn, not be a socialite. With your accent you will pick up loads of friends, but be choosy who.

It's about the same, except we don't study religion and philosophy (not that I know of...). Here's a link of the classes we have at my high school: http://bxscience.edu/apps/classes/?rn=9956165 Homework for me is about a few hours a night...sometimes all night...
2 :
A sixteen year old would probably study: some type of math (trigonometry, pre-calculus, etc.) science (physics or chemestry) english (I think I took American Literature that year) history (I think that year was American history) gym class I took French as far as language goes, but Spanish seems like the most popular choice and some sort of elective class of their choice... my school had many options (you could take something in business, art, music, and I took one where you worked in a pre-school) I didn't have too much homework, maybe an hour or so a night. Hope this helps! It would be a great experience to school in another country, no matter what that couantry is.

4 :
At 16 you would be a sophomore (10th grade) or a junior (11th grade) so here you would study English, math, science, History (usually U.S. History), and a few electives. You only have religion if you attend a private school with some kind of religious affiliation like a Catholic school because of separation of Church and State.

Is there a BAD graduate school in the USA

Is there a BAD graduate school in the USA?

Absolutely. There are diploma mills, which are unaccredited schools that give out diplomas that are fake, for a fee. There are schools that are not regionally accredited, or not appropriately professionally accredited, which do operate as real schools but which grant degrees that aren't recognized by all employers or by other schools. There are schools that are appropriately accredited, but are lower ranking and not considered very strong. Lots of options for bad grad schools. Are you looking for one? May I suggest Devry/Keller? They're not well respected.

No, why would they.
2 :
i dont live there, but no. b/c ur still in canada, so even if they let u go to a skool in the US, u will still have to show them all those documents. and tht would be hard to do everyday!
3 :
I believe it is possible, I'm not sure if they would be allowed to attend a Public school in the US but definitely a private school. There are some parts of the US only accessible through Canada (Point Roberts, WA) where the children get on a bus and cross the border twice. Into Canada, and back in to the US.
4 :
no no no no no no
5 :
if you live in Mexico are you allowed to go to school in the US - I think no. So I would think it is the same dilema. Good luck.

You'll be at least superficially popular, since you'll be new, and everyone will want to know about you, and your cool accent. Try to make friends, and don't steal any boyfriends/girlfriends, and you will do fine.
2 :
check out www.noblefec.com. It provides all information on study abroad, career counselling, entrance exams preparation, visa counselling etc.
3 :
They'll be very interested in getting to know you and will love showing you around their world. Just be open and people will definitely gravitate to you to show you around! Our international students are always part of a big net of friends! Good luck!

I've never had any experience with one. I hope they do better than they do on the call centers.
2 :
some are good some are bad, just like all other races of teachers.
3 :
they are really good, especially in science and math. because of their really good knowledge received from overseas, there teaching skills and materials are very good.
4 :
im not racist but indian teachers [mainly men] r really strict and mean they want what they want. my kid had a student tecaher [indian] nad when she would talk back he sent her to look at a closet door
5 :
I've had two Indian teachers and found the accent to be difficult to concentrate around. For me, I had to try VERY hard to "get" the material. They knew they're topics well but it was a barrier with the heavy accents.

Typically, it is not taught in any serious depth at the high school level, but it is often mentioned in passing fashion; however, there are some very prestigious private schools in which the theory is given serious attention, though still not as much as at the university level. Part of the reason for is this is because few high schools teach the necessary classes for even approaching the theory, such as logic, critical reasoning, and high level physics.
2 :
It is introduced in first year chemistry with more details in second year chemistry and physics. It is not taught in great detail in any of those classes. Second year physics will go deeper into details than any other class.

What do you think of the first Arabic language public school opening in the USA

What do you think of the first Arabic language public school opening in the USA?
http://www.thestar.com/article/252481 In Michigan (Dearborne) they are always looking for bilingual teachers (Arabic/English) for public school but even there they didn't do an all out Arabic school like this....I think time will tell really....keep the comments coming, it's interesting.

I think the great movement for integration is dead in America.
2 :
Then we would have to accommodate every language. I think it should be an option in many standard Public Schools, but I think a school dedicated to it is a little much.
3 :
I think it's great! We already have Spanish, French, German, etc language immersion schools so why not Arab? Brooklyn is the perfect place for the first school.
4 :
I think it's great. But there are some people who are making a big stink about. I plan to go by the school, insha'Allah just to see it whenever I'm in Brooklyn (I live in the Bronx and work in mid town Manhattan).
5 :
I'm not sure. The Semetic languages are rich and wonderful, and Arabic is particularly gorgeous. I'm not a big fan of the "public" educational model, though, so that tempers my thoughts about it.
6 :
I do have to agree that if we have an Arabic language school then every language would want its own school. Not too many years ago California wanted to teach Ebonics which really isn't even a language. I DO believe that classical Arabic should be available for those who want to learn it... if not in high school then at least in college. Where I am it is not even offered and the one time it was, there were not enough students and the course was dropped.
7 :
It's a splendid idea! We can have Spanish, French and Italian schools but why not Arabic? Just because as the newspaper states that "almost no one can read Arabic," doesn't mean you can't learn from the start. Besides, having the skill to speak many languages fluently is a great advantage. I can speak three language, Malaysian, English and Arabic. I'm working on Arabic so I can speak it fluently. And guess what? My friend can speak four! He speaks Chinese, Malaysian, Hindu and English! It's an advantage for him, able to speak many languages. Learning is never wrong. We live to learn, learning everyday every single minute you live.
8 :
Thanks to ALLAH.........I think that is very interesting and it just shows how much more our educational system is expanding here in the states!!!!!! That's the goodest news I 've had today!!!!!
