How much is paid the school teacher in the USA

How much is paid the school teacher in the USA?
pls tell me
Teaching - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Anywhere from 30,000 to 80,000 in my school district.
2 :
This really depends on where you live and how much experience you have. Typically, teachers make about 35,000 starting. That may be higher in some area's, and lower in others. The average high most teachers make is about 50,000 a year, but that's after teaching for more than 20 years. If you have a higher degree (Masters), you usually make about 2,000 - 3,000 more.
3 :
Find the state where you want to teach, teachers get paid differently in each state, each county. If you have a particular interest in one region, find the school district's name in Google and seek for their salary scale. The average start for a teacher's salary is about 35,000 a year. Add +2,000 or 3,000 if you have a masters. Specialists have a higher salary (special education teachers). Some school districts have a bonus between 1500 and 7000 dollars if you go to work for them, although with this crisis and budget reductions, I am not sure if they are still doing that. In some states you ca get another bonus if the school passes their annual goals on standardized tests. Between 700 and 1500 more after testing season.

What are the major differences between a public and a private high school in the USA

What are the major differences between a public and a private high school in the USA?
I'll go to the USA to do the 12th grade (I'm Portuguese) and my family want to place me in a Private Day School but I'm kinda concerned! I'd like to know if the private and the public high schools are pretty much the same. We see schools in the movies (with the lockers in the corridors, the little cliques and the lunch tables and the prom) and I'd like to know if private schools have all that or if it is only fiction. Oh yeah, and I'd like to know if we gotta pay the extracurricular activities (in portugal you dont!)

it depends it may be diff. or not
2 :
Depends where you live really . Some mostly or almost all private schools have Prom . Its something you cant miss before graduation. I would say yes they would have those things you see in the movies. lol . Though it might be rather different depending on what the school is like and where you live . My school is quite small so there wont be as much lockers around hehehe
3 :
In Private school you have to pay and wear uniform, while public school doesn't require you to pay or wear uniform =))))))
4 :
It really depends on the school! Public and private can be similar, usually the environment at private schools is nicer. The advantage to private school for you will likely be that the school will be much smaller than a public school and you will get more individualized attention, the teachers may even tutor after school. (They do at my son's private high school.) This may be good for you since you are coming from another country and may need a little extra help. (But your English is excellent.) It depends on the school if you have to pay for extracurricular activities. My niece attended public high school and she had to pay for her cheerleading expenses, over $1000 for uniform, competition fees, transportation, etc, each year. It may be difficult to be admitted to a good private high school for 12th grade, unless you are currently in a similar school. But it's worth a try. Good luck!

I'm not in school anymore but I do have four children in school. In middle school kids have 45 minute classess. There are different teachers for each subject. In some school kids travel from classroom to classroom for class and in other schools the teachers travel from classroom to classroom. The subjects are History, Math, Science, Language Arts, Gym and some elective courses like music. There are always clubs one can voluntarily join like the reading, chess, environmental, arts & crafts, news, and honor roll club just to name a few. School usually grade A(90-100), B(80's),C(70's- barely passing),D(69 or less failing), or F(Cero-failed). Private school use uniforms. Public school generally do not use uniforms but some schools voluntarily do. Usually kids wear what they please within school policy, like no shorts or shorts only in the summer, no open toe shoes or sandals ok, it depends on each school. If the child is wearing something too skimpy most likely parents will be called. Clicks usually form by categories. Usually kids separate themselfves into clicks by categories like the POPULAR CROWD who wear the brand name clothing and boys are usually atheletic and girls are usually very sociable, also the "GEEKS" who are in honor classes and dress more conservative, and the REBELLIOUS who are rude to authority, fail their classes, and don't do their homework. Kids also separate depending on the type of music they like. The music determines how they dress. Rap music equals large clothing. Hard rock equals a Gothic look. These are all G E N E R A L I Z A T I O N S ! !

Should all Public schools in USA be equally funded since they all must follow "All Poor Children left Behind"

Should all Public schools in USA be equally funded since they all must follow "All Poor Children left Behind"?
Some schools in Mississippi get $2,000 per year per child and some in NY Westchester county get $20,000 per child per year. All must follow same Bush law, why not same funding?
Law & Ethics - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It is different because of the cost of living and overhead costs.
2 :
i was asking myself the same question, the other day! if they are funded equally, then they have an equal opportunity at sucess...am I right!?!?!
3 :
No everyone should have equal freedom to go to any public school they want or be given vouchers to pay for part of the cost to the private school of their choice. Problem solved. Write your congressperson and make it happen
4 :
Because if you are poor, you always get less in America - from birth to grave. Bush does not care about Mississippi. Hell For that matter, he does not care about NY either, all he care about is Bush!!!!
5 :
School funding is based on tax revenue in the county that people reside. My taxes fund the schools where I live. So, the higher the property values, the more tax revenue generated for the school in that area. With that comes more money per child in the school district. Texas tried the "Robin Hood" program where they took some of the revenue from richer districts to give to poorer districts. But, it caused such a commotion, they stopped. People work hard to make what they make. If they are successful, there tax money should stay in their district.
6 :
Thats why the states should be dealing with these issues.

When I searched for boarding schools, no. Schools like in Zoey 101 don't exist. The people who create the boarding schools don't place is somewhere where the kids will goof off and go to the beach, mine is on a mountain because they don't think we'll goof off because there's nothing to do (but we always find a way around that!) plus, if you're really serious about it, do your own research, don't post questions on forums.
2 :
Look at Stevenson and Cate in California. Tabor in MA and St. Georges in RI have an affiliation with the Episcopal church. However, there is no attempt to convert you into a member of the church, and all faiths or no faith are welcome. I heard that there is a boarding school in Hawaii, but I don't remember its name. Look at www.boardingschoolreview.com.

School in the USA - Can someone explain

School in the USA - Can someone explain?
Can someone please explain to me how the education system works in the USA? I live in the UK and will explain how it works here in the hope that someone can explain to me how the system works in the USA in comparison? Children start school aged 4 or 5 (Depending when their birthday falls). At this age, they go into Primary 1 (or P1) then; Start P2 aged 5-6 Start P3 aged 6-7 Start P4 aged 7-8 Start P5 aged 8-9 Start P6 aged 9-10 Start P7 Aged 10-11 After P7 is complete, the child will leave Primary School and go onto Secondary School / High School aged 11 or 12, again depending on when their Birthday falls. They then stay in Secondary School until age 18, but they can choose to leave from the age of 16 if they wish. If someone could explain how the system differs that would be much appreciated.

We start kindergarden at 4-5, also depending on birthdays but the parent gets to chose, there is a window. Then after that (k), 1st through 6th grade, all of this is called Elementary school. Middle schools is the next two year, 7th and 8th grade, which usually is it's own institution. We have no GCSE's or A-levels, we continue on to another block of four years before college. 9th grade (Freshman year) 10th grade (Sophomore), 11th (Junior) and 12th (Senior). Then you go on to college if you wish, where a Bachelors degree is 4 years, typically you start this at 18.

How do High Schools in the USA work? At what age do you attend, how many years is it etc

How do High Schools in the USA work? At what age do you attend, how many years is it etc..?
Hey I'm outside the US and I wanna know how High Schools there work. I actually wanna know these: 1. At what age do you enter High School? 2. How many years does a student attend a High School? 3. What time in the morning do they start? Probably many have different times, but as a general idea, what time do High School starts and finish? Do you eat there? Thanks ;) =] Peace. =]

1. Usually between 13 and 15. 2. Usually Four. The years are called Freshmen, Sophmore, Junior and Senior. 3. High School generally runs from about 8 to about 4. Lunch is usually served on campus.
2 :
1. 14 2. 4 years (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior) 3. My school day stars at 7:25 and ends at 2:13. I usually wake up at six.
3 :
Most teens enter the 9th grade (freshmen) at age 14. Credits are earned by successfully passing courses and students progress to grade 10 (sophomore), then grade 11 (junior) and finally grade 12 (Senior). Usually seniors graduate at between 17 and 19 years of age. Depending upon how early they started school. The school day ranges from school district to school district. Mine starts at 7:45 am and ends at 3:15 pm. We have 4 periods a day that average 95 minutes each. Most schools serve lunch. In american, financially disadvantaged kids apply for and receive free lunch. Some progressive school districts have "open" lunch which allows students to leave campus and visit restaurants.
4 :
1. 13/14 2. high school is four years 3. our school starts at 7:40 till 3:00 Students eat lunch in school. Most high schools are closed campus. Meaning the students may not leave school for lunch. To leave school for any reason takes a phone call or note from a parent.

It will have to be private school.
8 :
You may be able to get a visa to do 1 year of study in the US. Your parents/guardian would have to pay for the cost of your education. After the one year you would not be able to enroll at any US school. If your parents had a visa such as an "H" visa and were living in the US you could go to school here. Sorry!
9 :
You can get a visa, but it will expire in a year. Also not everyone can get visas.

Why didn't Oprah build a school for poor children in the USA

Why didn't Oprah build a school for poor children in the USA?
Some of Edwards voters wondered why Oprah didn't build a school for the poor in SC? After all they have alot of poverty. Why do these celebs take their money overseas when there is so much suffering in this country? Is it the church affiliation, the same one Obama belongs too, that has dedicated itself to africa? How about dedicate yourself to the USA?

Too big a chance that white kids my go.
2 :
She said she wanted to build it for children who would be grateful
3 :
Because she would have to meet environmental standards, and pay union wages.
4 :
because it is more COOL to do stuff in africa............
5 :
Because by the time it took to get thru all of the red tape, zoning permits, building permits, lawsuits by animal rights activist because of the displaced squirrels, lawsuits by the landowners who want 100 times the amount that their land is worth, and paying off the local politicians just to be able to go thru all of the red tape, she would be dead and the school would not get built. Also didn't Edwards win billions of dollars in tobacco lawsuits which were meant to benefits schools. We also have property taxes in this country that pays for schools in each state. Poverty in this country is not a celebrities fault, the people need to take personal responsibility for their own schools, and their own financial health. Poverty in Africa is caused by tyrants and dictators.
6 :
I think that would be because there are already schools in the U.S. and all of the children living here can go to school for free regardless of where they live or how rich or poor they are.
7 :
i don't know; but, i would enjoy hearing from celebs why this occurs.
8 :
She did it for the girls in Africa because over there, the education of girls is not important to the country and education cost. In the USA, education is free and there are programs to help, but some just don't care. We take things for granted that other people dream of.
9 :
She wanted to make herself better known and she did. It was her own money she was using , and ofcourse she can use it as she wishes.Yes it improved the life of many children.Africans mostly.
10 :
You are right. It shows how they truly feel about America.
11 :
It is a legitimate question. I believe people can do whatever they want with their money but it does make you wonder why more dont help Americans. Last time I checked, there were a lot of poor blacks in America and you'd think someone successful like Oprah would want to help them. I am sure there are issues of who would be grateful but I think some others are right when they note the red tape and plain BS you have to go through to do anything here in the US- ask any business- that is why they leave so often
12 :
Oprah has reached a position of power and money, supported by USA citizen's dollars, and I have seen a new side of Oprah I failed to see before. She has been one-sided, I would say racist, on some of the issues brought to her audience; and a commitment to another nation over the needs of one's own nation (that by the way supports your income Oprah) - leaves a lot of U.S. citizens left in the dirt. I bet that money could have helped build a lot of homes in New Orleans. Come on folks - open your eyes.
13 :
Not needed here. Public schools are infested with anti-Caucasian, socialism, entitlement curriculum disguised as "multiculturalism". Oprah and Trinity Fellowship have exactly what they need in United States regarding public school; now they are focused on planting propaganda Afrocenteric schools in Africa complete with villainization of America and Europe. BTW, I heard Oprah left Trinity Fellowship because it hurt her public "image".
14 :
Oprah, has, lost my respect. I thought she was all that, but She and I don't have the same interest at heart. at this time.Wonder why with all the money she has why doesn't just move to Africa, and do her thing. But, would the African people; support her like the devoted Americans have,? No, I don't think so. But she sure, let us know what she thinks of us. And that was good enough for me. I can take a hint. As for here building a school for girls, well we have enough rape here now,, so maybe she doing us a favor on that one. Lord knows, it's become so crazy who knows anymore..
15 :
Oprah has her own network now and she is so rich she can do as she feels fit and doing so she wants to appear as if she is helping the world and that is why she endorsed Obama and is standing behind him and wants him to win. Oprah cares about Oprah and her money and hopes everyone will thinks she is the big one doing everything for everyone else. So Sorry but she is one of those so called Money people who do not care about anything but looking big to the world.

Yes it does depend on your school district but in virginia were out on june 4

Ok how can I get a very large or full scholorship for a boarding school

Ok how can I get a very large or full scholorship for a boarding school?
I really hate being in school with my brother cuz I get used alot by other girls who like him so I think boarding school [out of state] would be a good option. My family annoys me often too. So is there any way I can get a full scholarship to a boarding school and what are some good boarding schools??? In the USA...
Other - Education - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Oh gosh! Why resort to boarding school when you have other options? First and foremost, boarding school is not a place to escape the world, nor to escape your family. Boarding schools don't admit students they admit families. The average school will not admit a student that is using the school as a way out. Admissions officers can tell when this is being done. They're trained well. Second, using boarding school as a cop out to home life is horrible because you're not going for the reasons boarding school is out there. It's a place to challenge your mind and have new opportunities that you would not have received at home. Just look into a local private school or charter school if school life is really bad. Other than that, just get over it. Life throws us crap all of the time. Get use to it now. Lastly, if none of this deters you from applying, the average school has a substantial amount of financial aid. Look for a school you personally love and then check to see what kind of aid is given. Five schools give full tuition if your family's income is less that 75K a year.

They're pretty safe.In the city, they are more dangerous but most city schools have security walk-throughs like at an airport. No,the teachers don't take guns to school and they really don't need to.America isn't THAT bad.haha.
2 :
I live in a fairly small city of about 40,000. Our schools here are pretty safe. Only one school that I know of in my area have police presence. There are usually 1 or 2 plain clothed officers that patrol our county's largest high school. We have been fortunate enough here to not have any school shootings. I'm sure there are kids that take guns to school. I think most schools frown upon teachers "packing". There recently was a kid who had a detailed plan about hiding guns nearby and causing a lot of trouble but someone tipped the police and it never got that far. I know there are schools where guns are a big problem, but not all.
3 :
Not yet.
4 :
GUNS? no there are no guns in high school. gads what do you think it is like here? There are no guns, police, armed guards, security gates at any high school around where I live. some high schools in inner city schools do have security gates to walk through. If any student is caught with any kind of weapon, they are expelled from school.

What's it like? Any details on the student life there? What can I expect? I mostly care for information on people, school spirit, field trips or vacation to different places. Any good stories or something I want to know more about this school to maybe go here next year. Thanks you!

Choate Rosemary Hall (also known as Choate) is a private, college-preparatory, coeducational boarding school located in Wallingford, Connecticut. It took its present name and coeducational form with the merger in 1971 of two eminent single-sex establishments, The Choate School (founded in 1896 in Wallingford) and Rosemary Hall (founded in 1890 in Wallingford, but resident from 1900 to 1971 in Greenwich, Connecticut). At the merger, the Wallingford campus was enlarged with a complex of modernist buildings on its eastern edge to accommodate the women from Greenwich. Here are some great links>> http://www.choate.edu/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choate_Rosemary_Hall

Why are public school kids in USA generally so badly behaved

Why are public school kids in USA generally so badly behaved?
I did a teaching practice in México and it was like a vacation compared to what goes on in US schools. I have a Tefl certificate and I'm eventually going to go back to Mexico and teach there. I've subbed in schools in North Carolina and it's a nightmare. I'm not sure if it's the area, or if I'm just getting old and gray and times have changed. I went to school in Florida for most of my high school years and I NEVER treated a teacher, or even a sub, the way the kids treat teachers/subs in this area today. The kids are so uncooperative; I don't know why it's so hard to follow simple oral directions in English like, "Please don't talk while I take roll." They'll just laugh and scream or make smart comments, or get out of their seats... run around the room... or stand and scream in my face. Or they'll say, "Do you want me to take it for you..." after you asked everyone to sit down and be quiet. I mean, I asked, in simple English (the kids' native language) to sit in you seat and be quiet... I don't think I'm asking for a lot! I hope I don't offend anyone, but some of the kids have really unusual names and they're not pronounced the way they should be phonetically. I don't wanna give an example (because someone might recognize me!!), but you'll say it the way it makes sense... and they'll rudely snap, "It's (insert name here)" or laugh and scream and call you stupid and laugh, what an idiot. I'm getting old and gray... when I was a kid people named kids stuff like Heather or Kevin. If there's a discipline problem, a kid is repeatedly noncompliant, and you write them up/write a referral, then they'll snatch it out of your hand and curse and threaten you. If I try everything in my power and they still misbehave, as a last resort I'll call an administrator... and they'll either act put upon or just won't answer the damn phone. I'll go round the room and offer to help them with their work, but they just rudely blow off my offers for help or flat out refuse to do the work. I tell them I can't force them, but there are consequences and that they're not gonna pass if they don't do the work. I've handed out referrals, called parents, had conferences, nothing worked. I did the work I was supposed to do; it just didn't have any effect. My teachers I had were so ungrateful; they treated me like a problem but they didn't know how good they had it. I used to get in trouble for drawing pictures during class... even after I'd finished my work, I had a real gift for art... but it got squashed, I began to think I was a lousy artist because NO ONE ever encouraged me... they just made me feel guilty, like I'd been caught doing something dirty or perverted. Now I'm grown and everyone who sees my artwork says that I should have been an animator for Disney, but not it's too late. :'( Really, why couldn't my teachers have minded their own business?? Compare the way I was back then with the way kids are today... I certainly never cursed at, threatened a teacher, I never disrupted class, never got out of my seat... I just drew pictures... big friggin' deal. then I grow up and I get stuck with a classroom of kids who are bound and determined to give me a heart attack. I have realized that I NEVER want to have children, but IF i had children I would either send them to Catholic school or homeschool them. Hopefully, if I were to have kids, I would have moved abroad permanently. I got chewed out for doing a horrible job of managing the classroom. I defended myself. I think I've done a fabulous job. I was professional. Saint Francis would have smacked some of these damn kids a long time ago. The kids are by and large, a bunch of sadistic brats who delight in bullying, who go out of their way to get me fired or give me a heart attack. So what the hell is wrong with American public school kids?? You were not all sugar and spice and everything nice when you were their age just as you are not miss perfect now. I was THERE, you were not, but you know what went on? I certainly never cursed at a teacher, I never assaulted a teacher, I never destroyed property or a classroom. I drew pictures in class. That's the worst thing I ever did. I remember when a kid said something vulgar and all the other kids were shocked. Now it happens everyday and no disciplinary action is taken. Ooops!!! Quise decir: MUCHA suerte. Lo tecleé mal... perdón "Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders." We certainly never cursed them, I never called anyone a fat bitch, etc. I would remember if we had... I'm getting old but I'm not ancient and I'm certainly not seanile! Catholic school: I know, right?? I went to a private school (Episcopalian, but close) and I have NEVER forgiven my parents for pulling me out of private school and dumping me in public school. My 3rd grade teacher had no clue... she thought we were all a buncha assembly line products. I went all my adult life never knowing I had a gift until someone in my Tefl course pointed it out. I don't know u. But u sound like a good caring teacher. I don't know why North Carolina is so awful. 2 real forms of power, and that is the grade and the parent Exactly... I wish my district would realize this, because subs have neither of these. All you can do is write down names and leave it for the "real" teacher. 1. They took spanking out of schools. 2. Kids have no respect of elders anymore 3. No fear of punishment 4. Bad parenting (not in all cases) 5. Schools afraid of lawsuits by parents if they disclipline the kids 6. Schools don't punish kids because if they did, they would not get money from NCLB law. 7. Teachers don't have administrators to 'back them up' anymore I just don't see WHY administrators let it be made public that they are running their schools this way. Amen to THAT!! I would love to paddle EVERY butt in the district. ESPECIALLY the administration.

The easy answer to tell you why American kids are so badly behaved would be oh i have no clue. But i do know why i mainly think its cause of the parents punishments they give they when they treat other people (such as you a sub badly). Many times the punishment is something simple like oh no allowance or no cellphone no tv or computer. When I my country (soy originalmente de Mexico de parte de Morelia Mich. ) And over there it nothing like these punishments its usually hit your kids or making them hold 10 pounds of dictionaries . Usually Us kids are bad only some though beacause they dont at all value eduaction which is dumb (Has notado que En Mexico jovenes se retiren de la escula para trabajar) (Mi papa tuvo que hacer esto) so that is why I think us kids are so bad ...
2 :
Nothing is the matter with kids "these days" because nothing has changed these days. These exact complaints have been going on since the time of SOCRATES, and probably even before that. You were not all sugar and spice and everything nice when you were their age just as you are not miss perfect now. "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." - Socrates "What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" - Plato "I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint" - Hesiod "Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you̢۪ll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders." - Mary Schmich
3 :
Wow you are really all over the page there. Take a breath and relax. First if you don't want to have kids for personal reasons, more power to you, but if you don't want to because of the kids you teach, that is simple not a good reason. Being a parent to 1 or even 5 kids is not thing like being a teacher (I could go down the list of differences but it would take too long). Second, I never went to school in Mexico so I don't know how they compare to the schools here, they may be better. But I think it could have been very specific to the school in Mexico and very specific to the school in the US. I currently teach at a school in NYC and in one of the worst parts of the city, and every time I tell another teacher I teach there they are like "Really?" as if I told them I teach in the middle of a war zone. But even though my kids can be rowdy, they have never given me the kinds of trouble your kids give you. Third, you are a sub, again I don't know how they do things in Mexico but I do know for American kids sub means "sub-human" ie we can treat this person like a piece of crap because she is not a real teacher. Here the single most important piece of advice I can ever ever give any sub or student teacher, never let a student know you are a sub or student teacher, kids will ask "Are our sub?" The answer is "NO! I am you're teacher today until miss so-n-so gets back" They hear sub and they lose their minds. Fourth, the experience you had when you were young is part of the problem. The powers-that-be in Education only know how to do things in extremes. During your day it was strict, today it is not strict at all. I do blame parents, the absolute worst thing for me as a teacher is when I call a parent and they give me this attitude of "you fix it." This is 100% the worst thing for behavior because of a teacher we only have 2 real forms of power, and that is the grade and the parent. Once a child does not fear either of those things, there is nothing, NOTHING we can do to stop them. Sometimes peer pressure works (I like to do the "if you mess up, I am going to lower your buddies grade, but it is a real cruel thing to do, but then again I am a jerk). I would say Catholic schools are probably the best. Not so much because they are private per se but because all the parents have to pay AND none of the parents are super rich. In other words for the parents sending their kids is not cheap and that means they want to get the most out of it, so if I call up mommy and daddy they are going to listen to what I have to say because they aren't paying their hard earned money for little johnny to get "f's"

Do you think that another language will ever be compulsory to learn in school in the USA

Do you think that another language will ever be compulsory to learn in school in the USA?
If so, which language? Personally I think either Japanese or Spanish should be required. Japanese because it is very useful, and Spanish becasue Latin America & Mexico is close to the US>

Yes, and I think it should be Spanish, right away.
2 :
Yes.Spanish. Even though it's a good idea to learn Chinese,Japanese and Arabic.
3 :
yes I think Spanish will be a graduation requirement in all schools in a few years. We have to make accommodations for the aliens which is all a bunch of BS!
4 :
I think we need to start with proper English.
5 :
Spanish, only because i feel lefted out when people speak in that and tell jokes, i want to feel included and plus its better to speak another because you think and speak in that lang. and it sounds great. I don't want to become ignorant to others!
6 :
Spanish... my son is in Kindergarten and they're starting him on Spanish... it's not a public school though.
7 :
Personally I think neither should be required. This is AMERICA, and we speak ENGLISH. Sorry to all you immigrants, but if you come to our country and expect to be treated as normal, then learn to speak our freaking language. What angers me the most is when I'm at a drive thru or at a store and I can't understand what the cashier is saying. I just want to tell them to go back to their own country and learn our language.
8 :
To study and learn another foreign language are not compulsory neither mandatory but it is a necessityspecially if you are planning to in other foreign country. It is much advantageous for you if you know other language aside from one kind. Communication and understanding are open and easy now, you can move on.

What are some 6 year bachelor/MD schools in the USA

What are some 6 year bachelor/MD schools in the USA?
I've heard about these schools to go to when you are sure you want to be in the medical careers. I have tried to find them, but I have been unable to find any. I know they exist. It is a school that you go to and it takes six years to get your bachelors and md, instead of 4 years of college and 4 years of med school. Some kind of list would be GREAT!!!!
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
To be honest, the 6 year programs are being phased out (if they haven't been completely phased out already)....even the 7 year programs are going out of style, although I do know a few do still exist. Most BS/MD programs today are 8 years long. This is the official listing of all BS/MD programs in the US...you'll have to click through the links to see how long (6/7/8 years) each program is. http://services.aamc.org/currdir/section3/degree2.cfm?data=yes&program=bsmd Frankly, the trend in medical training is for people to ADD time, either by taking time off between college and med school or taking time off during med school to do research or other programs. There are many reasons why this is true, but one is the issue of maturity. I'd also think long and hard before sacrificing a year or two of your college years...college is important on a personal and social level, not just academically. Also practically speaking, if you look through the list of schools that offer these programs, a good majority of them are at lower-ranked med schools. There are, of course, a few exceptions (eg Brown, UCSD, UPitt, and Northwestern, BU are the ones that jump out at me). But if you're talented enough to get into a combined program at one of those higher ranked schools, then you're probably talented enough to get into those schools (or their equals) through normal admission and talented to get into a great med school.
2 :
there arent many and you literally have to be among the best students in the COUNTRY to get into the ones that do exist, as there are very few spots in the programs. if you dont have a 4.0, lots of extracurriculars (academically impressive and other), and community service, forget it, and even if you do, so does everyone applying to them, so thats definitely not going to guarentee admission. about half the students that apply to med schools every year get rejected. think about this: about 95% of the studenst who apply to these programs youre talking about get rejected. its ridiculously competitive, and im not so sure its a good thing- 2 years of undergrad wouldnt have been enough for me to shape myself as a person and learn everything i needed for med school.

Going out to diners or grabbing a smoothie after school. Thats the life i have always dreamt for. I would say, if you have the oppotunity to go high school il the USA now, then i would take it. Because then you;ll make more friends which will help when you go to college Also, you would have a lot of fun. Tennesse? LA? NewYork? :) There the top 3 i would go too :D Let me know on what you decide :) Jess x
3 :
Ok my advice is that if you have the opportunity to go to The US in High School, then you should. I think you should go to Florida because it is warm all year. Trust me I mean you barely need winter clothes. In the winter it doesn't snow, but it can get a little cold. The summers are very hot. Florida is a state where there's sunshine almost all year. I live in The US, and let me tell you, you do not want to go to northern states because it is very cold there, especially in winters. Two reasons why I think you should come to the U.S. if you have the opportunity: A. Because colleges in the U.S. look at your ACT and SAT scores. Those tests are given to you in high school. B. I am a foreigner myself, and in the United States, people speak very fast. So if you come in high school, you'lll learn the "English-American" accent. You know there are many English grammar rules that do not apply in the UK. Example: In the Uk, you write colour. In the US, you write Color. This is just a simple example, wait till you get here. ~ Happy Holidays~ :) ~ your welcome~ :)

Which country is better for a Japanese student to study English, UK or USA

Which country is better for a Japanese student to study English, UK or USA?
Hi I'm a Japanese student who studies Law at university. I'm 19 now. I want to be a lawyer in America or UK in the future after I become a lawyer in Japan. So before I go to Law school in the USA or the UK, I would like to improve my English. Which country is better for me to study English? What schools do you recommend me to study English? I prefer safe cities. Thank you very much.

UK, USA is just a bad place to study English. Also the UK were the first to use English. Also, i am from the USA, not the UK Edit: Americans doesn't speak proper English. Lets say someone wants to type "girl" while speaking to his/her friend, that person would put "gurl". Visit random people's Facebook homepage, and you would see what i am talking about. I really wish I was born in the UK
2 :
Deciding not to study English in the United States simply because some people are lazy and type poorly on their Facebook page would be foolish. The United States has many fine schools for the study of English, turns out many excellent lawyers, and welcomes students from other countries. Of course, the same can be said of the U.K. So the first question you must ask yourself is where you really want to practice law. The English of the U.K. and that of the U.S. are quite different, and you do not want to waste your time learning expressions and vocabulary you will not need in everyday life. After you know where you want to practice, the next step is to check with the cultural attache of the embassy of the country you would like to learn about. That person will be able to tell you about English language programs which are available, where they are, and what levels of proficiency they require. My guess is that you have taken a lot of English already and really don't need much help with grammar and writing. Spoken English can only be mastered through exercise and practice (like any other study), so you might want to take classes in speech communication or English linguistics rather than ESL proper. These choices will all be presented to you when you have decided where you want to practice law.

Public/ Private High Schools in the USA that offers a Forgein Exchange Students program?
I have a friend who wishes to attend his last 2 years of High School here in the United States. I've been searching for schools that offer a forgein exchange student program, but only found agencies. If you personally knows a school or schools who's offering the program, please let me know. Any information is welcome.

Most high school exchange student programs are only for one year study abroads and will be through organizations such as Rotary International Youth Exchange or AFS. You might look into those online with a simple google search. High schools themselves don't do "foreign exchange" programs, you would have to use an organization for that. However, they will take in foreign exchange students that come with organizations OR: if you can get your friend a place to stay in the USA and acquire a valid visa, probably ANY high school will take him in.

Why don't we have the Olympic type sports in schools in the USA

Why don't we have the Olympic type sports in schools in the USA?
All the so called little sports the USA does not do so good in the Olympics. We should have more of them in the school system. Butchdal--you are wrong because there are many sports we do not have like table tennis, weightlifting competion, handball and many more such sword fighting, or whatever they call it. Dude5867---now you are talking about the winter games.
Olympics - 10 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Why not??? Americans are also good at little minor sports like baseball, basketball and American style football.
2 :
They really are not that popular in the US, but in other countries yes. ex. water polo
3 :
They do at my high school.
4 :
The US public education system is under enough strain as it is just trying to teach basic literacy and numeracy. It can barely afford to pay teachers a livable salary and maintain current facilities. It all comes down to money, and there isn't enough of it in the US public education system.
5 :
Well, the olympics consist of some prety hard core sports, that need enormous dedication. And some of them are dangerous without the right precautions and training. If we had the kids learning stuff like this without an olympic coach, injuries would be more likely. 7 year olds flinging heavy metal balls, or running with large poles, trying high dives without a swimming pool underneath...yikes.
6 :
It seems the term sport is applied too easily, I watched team handball and it was a bunch of people running back and forth to throw a ball into a net.
7 :
you do. show me a school that does not have a baseball basketball wrestling team soccer team badminton gymnastics swim volleyball track c'mon think about it you have alot of the competitive sports in your schools.
8 :
we should- i would love syncronized swimming at my school, and road cycling. but the US is already in a ressecion fixn to go into a depression. we just cant afford them. i wish we could though.
9 :
The reason we do not do good in them is because we do not care about them. That is the reason we do not have them in schools. If America cared about soccer as much as we do about football or baseball we would dominate But since the majority of us feel that soccer sucks we will always suck at it. The fact that soccer tolerates a 0-0 tie is enough to keep Americans away. We will dominate any sport we care about, and if we suck at it then it is not a sport.

You think it is feasible to have curling when you need ice? Do you think it is feasible to have ski jumping?

USA High School System?
Okay, so I'm from Australia and I'm writing a story based in America, where the students attend American schools. I like to be thorough when writing, so I was just wondering when the major events take place (dates) ? For example; When the school year starts? When/what the holidays are? When Homecoming/Prom/Other major events are? And any other major events that normal American Teens partake in in highschool? Thankyou :) PS; I understand that not all schools are the same and therefore there will not be an EXACT date to these events, but if you can give me something like say, "Beginning of march" or "End of september," somewhere AROUND about when it takes place, that would be perfect.

I go to school in Massachusetts. School starts in the beginning of September, and we get out around the end of June. We get out of school for the majority of the holidays. (Somewhat of an order) Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, We normally get a week to two weeks for Christmas vacation, There is also April and February vacations. Other main holidays, we get off. As for Homecoming; that is normally the last Home game for the team. It is a big event, especially for Seniors. I had my homecoming last night and I painted my body in my school colors. The football players ran threw a huge decorated sheet of paper, everyone went crazy There are two proms, Junior Prom (May/ a month or so before Senior Prom) and Senior Prom. It is a huge event. Limos, dresses, tuxedos, everything. It's like a wedding, for high school kids. Senior Prom is usually held at the end of Senior year. (May/June) There are also Pep rallies, where all the sports teams are announced and the rest of the school dresses up in school colors and cheers on the players. It's like a spirit day. These are normally held before Homecoming. Hope this helps, anything else, feel free to email me!

starts: Early September, may be before or after Labor Day About every 2 months there is a vacation: A half week off for Thanksgiving (November 26, for 2009) Christmas Vacation which is obviously around the 25th of December, Winter vacation in February, and spring vacation in April. Summer Vacation starts in the middle of June, and ends in September (the beginning again), in total there are 180 days of school. Major Holidays (the ones that we don't have to go to school for): September 7th, Labor day; October 12, Columbus Day; November 11th, Veteran's Day; January 18th, Martin Luther King Day (he was the foremost civil-rights leader int he U.S, and was later assasinated); May 31, Memorial Day. (I did not include Thanksgiving since that is included in the vacations part). Prom for Juniors and Seniors are held in late spring, normally early May. Mid-terms and Finals (testing) takes place in January and June, they are on the last week of the 2nd and 4th quarter of the school year and mark the end of the 1st and 2nd semester. School dances take place throughout the year.

Interesting ... School year starts dependent upon the state and federal laws ... usually in mid to late August, although it is supposed to start after Labor Day, first weekend in September. The holidays are usually the common ones ... try a major school district's website and you will have access to the district's calendar which will provide a lot of the data you are asking. Homecoming is in the Fall, Prom in the Spring and there is usually a Winter Dance of some sort in most schools in December, January, or February. There are other events like fairs, beauty pageants, parades, etc. but these depend on the individual district in area. The major change between Australia and the USA is that the USA has 57 different groups that determine how schools operate, it is not centralized. Each state runs it's own school program and each district in the state has some autonomy. There are some district websites listed below ... Hope this helped ...

Do you know what you want to do with art in the future? I think Temple University has a good art program if you plan on using it to teach later on. For other programs, Cooper Union is an excellent school and pretty much the cream of the crop attend that school. The class size there is small and if you get in, tuition is free. (Gives you an idea of how good your portfolio has to be.) I don't know where your level of art is at, but it doesn't hurt to apply. Other schools to look into are: School of Visual Arts and the Art Institute. The Art Institute has many locations across the continental US so you can look into that. I hope you found this information somewhat useful and good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I wouldn't include Savannah (SCAD) with the best art schools, but they really aren't bad. I'd consider them top 100. But the best of the best are: RISD, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Yale, Cranbrook Academy, Cooper Union, Maryland Institute College of Art, Virginia Commonwealth U, California Institute of the Arts, Carnegie Mellon, UCLA, New York State College of Ceramics (for ceramics and glass, specifically), Art Center College of Design, Columbia U, Pratt Institute, Bard, Temple, School of Visual Arts, UC San Diego, U Texas Austin, Washington U in Saint Louis, Hunter College, Parsons, Mass Art, Otis College of Art, Ohio State U, Rochester Institute of Tech, U Cal Davis, U Illinois Urbana Champaign, U Iowa, U Wisconsin Madison, Arizona State U, Indiana U Bloomington, NYU, Rutgers New Brunswick, San Francisco Art Institute (not part of the AI chain of schools, which should be avoided), UC Berkeley, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Minneapolis College of Art, U of the Arts, Herron School of Art, Syracuse, etc. Notice that some of the best art programs in the US are at broad universities, not pure art schools. That's why I listed places like VCU. Of those I listed, the most elite are Yale, RISD, and SAIC. But naturally, it depends on your major. If ceramics, it'd be NY State College of Ceramics (Alfred U). If printing technologies, it's RIT. If interior design, it's Pratt. Film, it's UCLA or NYU. Glass: RISD. Graphic design: RISD. Metals: SUNY New Paltz. Painting: Yale. Photo: Yale. Sculpture: VCU. And so on.
