There are some differences. When you are 14 or 15 you are usually in the 8th or 9th grade, possibly 10th. You study history (usually world history, world geography or european history), science (bilogy or chemistry or earth science), Math (anywhere from pre-algebra to functions analytical geometry depending on skill level) English, and possibly a foreign language and elective such as art or music. You graduate high school in the 12th grade (around 17,18 years old) when you get your diploma. you can go on to college for 2 or 4 years where there are various degrees availible, and graduate school for an additional few if you wish. School is not year round, it is cut into 4 quarters and 2 semesters with the summer vacation between grades that lasts around 2 months depending on where you go to school with small holiday breaks throughout the year.

I don't know much about education in France specifically, but in Europe in general there is a lot more emphasis on geography and foreign languages. For younger students, arithmetic, spelling, and reading are the main topics. For 14 and 15 English, Math, and Science are the big things. You get to choose as you get older.
